what engine would YOU use

Discos & disco 2s are definitely some of the better looking vehicles ever drawn up by the English.. that would be a pretty awesome rig all said and done.

There's a d2 sitting by the road for sale that I drive by frequently at work, looks really clean.. awful pea soup green color but damn.. I drool every time I pass it by.

I would love to have one if I had more free time.

That is why I picked up an RC one instead lol.

Pretty close to being the next best thing.. parts are a LOT cheaper to replace at the very least 😂

Kid I grew up down the street from has apparently gained an affinity for fancier vehicles, surprising honestly.. wouldn't of ever pegged him as someone who was any sort of automotive enthusiast.. anyways.. I was talking to his father awhile back and (at the time) he told me that Cam ended up buying either a d2 or some sort of range rover.. got a killer deal on the thing (craigslist of course).. he drove it for a few weeks and then when it came time to get it inspected the garage let him know that he was gonna need ONE front wheel bearing and ONE strut for a sticker.. and parts alone were gonna cost him something to the tune of 1800$ 😶

After he wiped the mess out of the back of his pants and dried the tears from his eyes (hopefully with opposite sides of the handkerchief) he put it right up for sale and managed to get back all of what he paid for it.. now he's in one of audi or VWs "off-roaders"

Although.. last I heard from his father was that he was now drooling over 2dr broncos thanks to seeing mine bumble past his parents house one weekend. Lord willing.. he'll find the strength to ditch the German crap and get himself back in a Ford.

To complete the "Land Rover Ownership Experience" it ran for half an hour and the steering servo died. :icon_rofl:

Eventually I will get an Explorer with a 5.0 and build it to a 331 for about 350 hp and 400+ lb-ft and have a fun daily driver Ranger. Because I can do it with all Ford wiring and computers and just tune it, and it will still be street legal even here where I have to do the stupid emissions testing regularly.
in FL we got rid of all the emissions BS

you know this is about well YOU but I would probably do a 351w

Naturally lol, what brand is the rig?

As for what I'd do, depends on the vehicle, I like a good challenge sometimes and reliability... it's really hard to argue with the power and reliability and durability of a turbo LS with a turbo 400 trans... on my boat I downgraded one cc from a 351W to a 350 SBC but the price was right (just sweat equity) so I'll take the gained ~30hp or so :). My next engine swap when I get to it will be from the 289 in the '67 mustang to a mildly updated 5L from the '97 Mounaineer and the 4R70W... just since I know it would all fit pretty easy and be efficient... fixing up the 351 from the boat would be a bag of hammers since they overbored for the pistons that are in it and it needs heads... (since heads cost as much or less than getting valve guides put in these heads)

FMS

Amazon lost the FMS one, I ended up ordering a aftermarket one that I think had to come from China. It was down for a month before I got the part to fix it.

If my 302 needs a full rebuild when I crack the heads off (I doubt it will) I have been enamored with the GM Atlas I5 3.7 recently. Turbo it.

500 hp is not hard to achieve and 5 cylinder noises are guuudddd.

just how are yall squeasing so much out of these little engines

They make around 245hp and 15 psi on pump gas is totally doable. That'll double the stock hp give or take a bit. 21 psi will triple stock power. All assuming the turbo and fuel are right.

V8 swaps are cliche AF though. Get yourself a 13b and stuff that sucker in there... nothing comes close to the unrelenting wail of a dorito motor when it's high on the pipe.. And I'd be willing to bet that there probably isn't a single rotary swapped ranger in the country..
And no engine sounds more like an electric air compressor than a rotary at idle...

The Mazda B series had the REPU that came with a 13B from the factory for a few years while they were also being rebadged as the Ford Courier. I don't think the factory ever put the rotary in the Ford, but that would probably be a bolt in swap for a Courier if you could find a wrecked REPU. And I don't remember which channel it was but I saw a YouTube video of a 12A swapped Ranger a few years ago.
