Need instructions on removal of CV axle with pulse vac hubs and info on special tools.
I have to drop the axle for lube service and motor mount replacement.
Haynes manual and videos don't clearly cover this.
TIA

So, no real special tools needed.

If you for sure have the pulse lock hubs (not all 2000s got them, I have two here that didn’t have it factory), a couple screwdrivers or popsicle sticks or zip ties or whatever can be used to work the hub free of the groove the retaining tabs are in. Good chance you’re going to break some tabs. Personally, I’d seriously consider eliminating the system in favor of the later “live” front axle system (you need wheel bearings and CV axles, plus cap off the vacuum system) 2000 and up used the “live” axle configuration, no hubs. Minor fuel economy hit, but no hubs to fail when you need them.

Anyway, there’s a metric nut behind the hub. I forget the size offhand, but it’s somewhere around 33-35mm. I got a whole selection of those sizes from various projects so I don’t remember specifically. You have to knock the upper ball joint free to get the CV axles out, so the brakes have to come off. It’s easier to get the CV axle out if you take the wheel bearings out, but it is possible to remove the CV without doing that, although you may have to spin the steering wheel to the opposite direction of the side you’re working on or vice-versa to get a little more room. So a perfect opportunity to just remove it all and upgrade, lol.

Be careful with it up on jackstands. I put 6-ton stands or bigger on the frame behind the front bumper when I’m doing that. Wish I had a lift

Thanks for the input. I am still confused by this system though.
Exactly where are these locks located? Behind the hub/bearing housing or the black plastic outer hub. Feeling ignorant on it.
BTW I have ordered the parts required to go live axle. Had considered it before but this disassembly has shown me the need to do it now

The hubs are just clipped on the outside of the wheel bearing. I’ll see if I have something here to take a picture or some video this afternoon. I should have an old bearing and I know I have a set of manual hubs for the pulse-lock system, they look different but fit the same as the automatic hub that was stock. I had a chance to pick up a pair of the manual hubs so I decided it might be a good idea to have them collecting dust in case I ever need them.
