Cold Air

Hello. I recently just purchased my '93 Ranger xl. And as my crown vic, the first thing I want to do is put a cold air intake in it. Here's the kicker, I can't find any. My question is, would the K&N Cold Air Intake for a '93 4.0L V6 work in mine? And if not, is it easy to build my own intake system?

You already have a cold air intake from the factory.

Basically MAKG is right. You will not gain anything from putting on a K&N intake. Trust me I know, I have one. Besides not having to replace the filter, only clean it (which is messy and takes longer) there is not much of a point to it. Our trucks currently pull the air from outside the truck through ducts. By removing the stock system, you will be getting air from inside the engine bay, which is warmer. However if you are looking for a true cold air system, I reccomend getting a snorkle.

You also don't need more flow. The stock set up can move much more air than your engine needs, yes, with a paper filter. I have a K&N in my stock box because it was given to me and mine was dirty at the time.

What brand is considered quality? I just replaced mine with a $6 at Advance.

It depends on what you want. I dont like KN because it let water through really easy and I hydrolocked my motor. Paper filters are better at stopping water.........

i use STP and never had a problem. Even in my high HP carbureted days. As long as it stays in one piece and blocks dirt...good enough for me. You show me one study where stp/fram/napa/walmart brand make a difference in HP and i'll rethink this.

Mr Skinner...you might want to actually read the studies before you go off half cocked and make an ass of yourself again.

Are you still carrying grief from the fact that I pointed out you had no idea what you were talking about in another thread?
Show me the numbers mr zz, or stfu.
This study is about airflow numbers and filtration...not about a filter improving HP. Please...please..read.
And realize that I've built more engines than you have hairs on your ass and have never found air filter brand to matter at ALL in performance. For filtration or flow numbers...that may be a different story. But saying that brand X yields more HP than brand Y, especially in an even mildly built motor, is complete BS.
And you come tell me that after selling a 4.0 with over 200K on the clock that STP's will kill the engine.

i dont care how much air fram filters flow...their gaskets suck and will rip or tear....if they even fit the filter box properly to begin with.

wix or motorcraft is all i will run.
