Here are pictures of my 2002 Ford Ranger Fx4 Off Road & my 1993 Ford F-150 4x4

my honest opinion Gary is if your ranger sits that much, unless you have some special connection to it, is to sell it or rearrange the vehicles so its easier to get the ranger out

Some months my ranger sits without getting moved at all but i still start my ranger twice a month then let my ranger idle for 10-15 minutes. I don't have a special connection to my ranger but why would i sell it. Those 2 cars are my dads so he rearranges them as he wants to. The only 2 things i don't like about my ranger are its tinted windows and that all the parts were not made here in america.

Ive put about 20 miles on my truck since Halloween...

I start it and get it to operating temp every week or ten days.

My tires get flat spotted a bit and it's hard on my battery.

I really don't want to sell it though...

But then again... I don't have another vehicle.

Dang, been driving the BII often enough to put the Ranger on that kind of a regimen?

Wait... I do have another. It sits all the time.

I really want to correct that though...

I have let my ranger sit for a few months holding down the driveway so to speak. then I get in it and drive it for a while. all the sitting isn't good for it and I have been driving it at least once every 2 weeks, the past few weeks I have been actually daily driving it. now all the sitting and suddenly driving it is pointing out issues... I have a bit of an idle/ engine miss/ fuel issue that I now need to sort out, as it is dying at intersections now. got a coolant leak consumption issue as well.

just starting the engine only warms up the engine and not the transmission. you need to get the transmission and differential up to operating temp as well, and the only way to do that is to drive it. this also prevents your tires from getting flat spots. the transmission has a lot of seals and solenoids that will stick after sitting for so long. (also seeing that a bit in my Ranger) so take it for a Sunday drive every week, keep it running.

One thing that nobody thinks of is starting the engine gives the battery a pretty good hit.

We used to get calls every couple months from little old ladies that started their car once a week to make sure it would start. A couple weeks of that with no real run time (alternators don't do their best work at idle) and they would pummel their battery to death. So we would send two guys out with a jumpbox, jump the car, bring it back, charge it and it would test fine... until after enough of these cycles it didn't test fine anymore.

very good point, that is usually pretty easily fixed with some sort of battery maintainer

I put a Battery Tender on mine this year... worth every penny.

Yeah, have fun explaining that to a little old lady.

And you know she won't unplug the thing before she leaves for bingo...
