What did YOU do today?

I need some relationship advice.

It’s that time of year, so I set up the Alabama game to record. Then I realized I never talked about football with the cute little brunette.

As if my heart and soul are just a used tissue on the side of the road, she said that she doesn’t care that much about football. She knew who Alabama was, but she didn’t know anything about the team.

I was trembling. I didn’t have the courage to ask her if she knew who Nick Saban was.

Here’s the question, should I try to educate her - elevate her - and teach her about the Tide? Or should I just cut her loose now?

Finished (or finishing) packing for hopping on a plane tomorrow. Heading to DC for the week. Been wanting to go see the Smithsonians for years, finally doing it. Been to DC a couple of times, but never got to really visit them. Went to the area for a few days in my early teens visiting family when my uncle worked at the Pentagon, saw a bunch of stuff but too youn to remember much and not enough time for the nuseums. Went again 2010 for 100th anniversary of BSA national jamboree, saw a lot of stuff that isn;t normall open or less popular, but still no time for the major museums. Years past always seemed to be reasons to not go. Still seems to be plenty of reason to not go, but don't see those reasons disappearing any tiime soon. Definitely hitting up the main Smithsonian museums (Air & Space, Natural History, etc). Will probably visit Arlington again. Would like to see Ford's Theater & Petterson House if I can get in. Several other museums are on the tentative list. Might do some the government building tours again, maybe National Archives, but BTDT and they haven't changed much since.

Outside of work the past week has mostly been about gathering odds and ends for the trip. Well that and bought another gun on Thursday. Don't worry, it's staying at home, but I'll post it in the appropriate thread when I get a chance.

Have the new pretty purple blue wrangler ready for all the fluids to be changed. Drilled out a broken rear seat mount bolt, and both front passenger seat bolts at the back end. Also removed that terribly ugly light bar from above the windshield

Started off this morning going on an adventure getting a chainsaw from facebook marketplace... needed a bigger better saw and found a Echo CS-500P which I believe is about 10 years old (haven't looked at the sticker) and should be 50cc and bar says 20", looks to be a solid unit for $40 (said it ran then they bumped the kill switch and now no spark, sounds simple, has good compression not afraid of the rest).

Then the ZF5 project continued, extracted the rotary bits out of the donor trans then started disassembly of the main shaft, forgot how "fun" that is... especially dealing with my shop that is a disaster, I don't have a clear work bench and just relying on my smooth jaw vise and my metal rolling cart that I cleared off enough to do the bulk of the work... That said the new output shaft is assembled, two case halves I'll be using are cleaned, now to clean the mating surfaces so I can check the preload on the countershaft...

Worked on the 8N l got the pump rebuilt and am about ready to swap out my parts. Pulled the tractor into the garage & started draining all the transmission/hydraulic oil. its all one big cavity (4.5 gallons) started at the back drain plug & worked my way forward. last plug of the 3 is the transmission. THIS fell out. not sure exactly where it’s supposed to be but certainly not bouncing around in the bottom of the transmission sump. Hope this doesn’t turn into a parts tractor.

Hopefully it wasn’t too important? Lol!

I mean, if everything is working, maybe don’t question it too much? Or maybe post in like Yesterday’s Tractors and see if someone knows what it is?

yesterday’s tractors so far hasnt gave me any answers but a 8N fakebook group has, possibly a shift fork retaining screw. Makes sense. Pull the shifter next & see what I find. Im lucky it didn’t get between rotating gears or between the case & a gear.

Yep, 7245 and 33925-S definitely look like a match for the parts found. That would have been a mess if it had landed in the wrong spot.

Before I started working on the fluid changes on the 2019, I finally finished cleaning, inspecting, and repacking the wheel bearings on the utility trailer. The right side was in good shape as well. So, job complete. Hopefully, this time next year, the trailer will have a new suspension that is better suited for the load it is carrying now. That is not going to be a cheap project, but will be a much simpler one than the reconditioning of the deck and side panels was.

I'm on the winning side of the transmission situation, there's a big heavy awkward hunk of metal with decent looking internals on my shop cart that is missing the output shaft seal since when I dropped the rotating assembly in it pushed the seal out... which is of course on the bottom until everything else is assembled... I wanted to leave the shift tower off until last but that's not how the cards rolled... Going good though, of course not as far as I wanted to be today but I had to run to town to get loctite, turns out I didn't have any red somehow or couldn't find it and it was too late to go to NAPA where they would have had sleeve retainer (I don't want the counter shaft bearing races to spin... they got red)

Also ended up at Harbor Freight and used a coworkers inside track and got 20% off of the kit of metal to help with press stuff... also grabbed some 40 grit flap discs they had on clearance and some lugnut sockets...

Yesterday I started hearing a noise from under the truck that sounded like a fat opera singer. So, today I test drove it to try and figure out what it was. Engine load, braking, and turning didn't affect it. But, as I drove past a brick wall that was reflecing the noise I could tell it was coming from the rear. So, I drove back home, jacked up the truck and put it in gear hoping it would do it so I could determine what side it was coming from. I then decided to check the drum brake assembly and had one helluva time getting the drum off. Once it was off I noticed a grove scored into the drum and that groove lined up with the parking brake adjuster lever was pointing down because the adjuster cable somehow managed to slip over its guide. So, I fixed that. Now I can drive without it sounding like I ran over a fat opera singer.

It ain’t over until the fat lady stops singing…
