Hello,

98, 4.0L OHV, 144k miles with little to no history. I Drove it 2 miles home.

Previous owner said it has an overheating problem & the last shop said possible head gaskets. What are the odds between plastic upper/aluminum lower intake manifold gasket, or head gasket on these motors ?

Hard to pinpoint exactly but it appears to be leaking driver side lower intake gasket with Little to no smoke coming from exhaust.

Other known issues ?

The attached photo is where the leak is coming from, was sent sideways for some reason.

Thanks for your time.

4.0 is known for leaking from the timing chain cover. Could be that.

Early OHV 4.0 is famous for leaking intake gasket. Usually right by the thermostat housing. They are also known for cracking heads if overheated. Soo.. 50/50?
