What did YOU do today?

Well that wasnt bad, 45 min. doesn’t leak. I was going to change the 1/4 turn ball valves for old-school gate valves (big round knob like a outdoor faucet) but didn’t want to push my luck. last sundays “15 min filter job” turned into a 3 hour thing (including the trip to town & back) I still need to put the new lower control arms on my escape, have the parts but just cant do it right now because of my shoulder. The oil change was painful enough to accomplish.

I feel ya on the 15 min job thing. I thought rebuilding the front driveshaft for the 1354 would be easy. 3 days later... And I still can't use 4Low. The shifter hits the ujoint.

I drove out to the middle of PA with the 2019 to see a buddy's new property, hang out a bit, and test drive the truck to see how it would do on a long trip with all the gear on it.

It needed to be in sport mode to handle the hills and the twisty roads better, but otherwise did fine. Fuel mileage was a bit better at 15.8 mpg over all. The 18 gallon fuel tank was enough for the trip but the fuel light did come on just before my customary fuel stop a couple miles from home. For a 242 mile trip, not bad considering. Not great when the normal long trip range before the fuel light comes on is 300+ miles. But you hang a bunch of stuff in the air stream, you are going to pay a penalty for it.

Dropped the transfer case for the swap. Went to rebuilding front driveshaft and found a part that I needed that I've never seen mentioned before.

I'm pretty sure this is the right part. The dimensions that I have check out.

I'm going in the morning to pick it up... 54 miles away. That's the only 1 I could get before Monday.

If it ends up being the right part, can we get that added to the tech article: Double Cardan Joint Replacement

That's the part number I used when I rebuilt my front shaft, should be the right one

About two weeks ago I received a registration renewal letter I put it in my backpack so I could get online and pay it during a slow period at work. Well, today it was slow and it decided to pay it. I opened the letter thinking something wasn't right about and looked for the smog renewal notice on the renewal form, but didn't see it. Then I noticed a "renewal fee" of $299 which is way too much and the web address wasn't for the DMV. It turns out it is a scam letter used to trick people to paying scammers to renew your vehicle for a fee. I logged into the DMV website and paid the $132 to register it and printed out the form for the smog check.

There's a scam for everything.

I did some more sanding and boiled linseed oil application. I also did the laundry and discovered that the source of the water in the laundry area of the basement is from the washing machine. We had been trying to figure out if it was water leaking in from rain, the A/C drain pipe, or something else. So, I tore into the washer. Found that the water pump has a broken mount. That is A problem but not THE problem. During reassembly, I discovered the source, that I had missed during disassembly. The drain hose is split where it gets clamped onto the nipple of the machine. While looking up parts, I discovered that it wasn't even the correct hose (you can't trust nobody anymore, not even Sears Scratch and Dent). So, the hose and pump are on order. They should be here Wednesday or Thursday.

The bottom of the drawer box, the sides, and center divider has been glued and screwed together. The goal today is the sand the interior to be as smooth as possible and wax it so the drawers slide as easily as possible before I glue and screw the top deck on.

Getting ready to prime. Pulled the fenders and grille yesterday. Will drop the bumper later today.
I've been planning this for awhile, collecting stuff I'll need. Plan is to paint -- excuse me, I mean prime (I've been told they are not the same. :p) things separately as much as I can like fenders and smaller things.

The bumper has been dropped. F'n thing is heavy, glad I wasn't underneath it.

Jack stands or an engine lift are very handy for doing that job by yourself.

Got off a bit early today and since the boat runs I could relax a bit... jumped on the mower and mowed the back yard then jumped on the tractor and mowed the berm on the pond and a bit of the tall reed canary grass... I'd do more with the tractor but I'm low on diesel... Now I pulled the F350 to the shop driveway so I can pull all the auction junk out of it to get to packing for camping...
