I’ve been working off a short list of things I wanna get done before I take the Road Ranger up to Ford nationals atCarlisle next weekend. There’s not much to do, but progress has been slow from the surgery on my arm and my hand. Well, last week was when they gave me the green light to carefully do whatever I wanted.
The top priority is getting a better spare tire for the truck, and according to my Excel sheet inventory, I have two that might work. But the tire pile is under tarps, and the tarps are under about 4 inches of leaves in pine straw. On the stack where there was no wheel, water getting on the tarp sink down into the tires like a bucket, so I had to take the water out of a half a dozen of them to get the tarps off.
I took the weed whacker to knock down the tall grass and vines by the tire pile. I had to put a new string in the Weedwhacker first. Then I got my shop vac to suck the water out of the deep pockets. I had to empty it first and clean the filter. I ran an extension cord out for my vac and leaf blower to blow the rest of everything else off, but the extension cord wasn’t working, it would cut in and out. So I took the end of the extension cord off, wiggled around the brass tabs with a small pair of needle nose, and put it back together and then it worked fine. then I got the electric chainsaw and I was cutting the vines from around the tire pile to the back of the garage and the whole length of the back of the garage. Some of these things were the size of my wrist. Of course, I had to put oil in the chainsaw and fiddle with the chain, and then fiddle with the plug and the extension cord again, but I got it done. Before I pulled the tarps, I went on the garage roof and blew all the pine straw off, two years overdue. Then I had to cut the wisteria vines away from the lightning rod, and away from the CB antenna. The vines had the CB antenna bent over a 90° angle. I also cut a half dozen pretty good size branches from the trees around the back of the garage so the roof would be clear. When I got Back on the ground, I took the big branches over to the soon to be burned pile which I can burn as soon as I fix the bottom pan in my chimania. By the time I got all that done, which took me better part of 10 hours, it was too late to pull the tarp and actually get the tire. I wanted to get in the first place. So that will be tomorrow.
The good news is, I was able to do it all without any great pain or limitation in my arm. My body is a little sore from the lack of exercise, but it’s that good sore you get when you do exercise, so I’m not complaining.
I do long for a time when I can go do two or three things without having to fix or modify every one of the tools and things I used to do it, whatever it is, but even that was OK. I have a lot of catching up to do now that my health is coming back
