The part was ordered for me at the mechanics and i get to pick that door ajar switch part up in 3 to 4 days.

pay someone else to do it.... that is usually the easiest way for me.

The only real way to change it is to pull the door latch out of the door so pull the door panel then the 2 or 3 #3 phillips screws out of the side and undo the lock and door handle linkages...

But yeah, what Bobby said is definitely easier for you :)

Is my dome light inside not turning off because my passenger door ajar switch is bad ?

My dome light doesn't turn off on its own ?

It's probably one of the two switches (4 on a 4 door? not sure, all my junk is older or Explorer...), they're not too hard to change, I think I changed one in one of my Explorers. The easy thing to do is unplug the switch to try, if you get the door panel off and peel back the vapor barrier thing and shove your arm back there there's a 2 pin connector on there, don't remember how the release works but I think I've unplugged it in place...

could be.

could be bad wire in door. bad gem module...

is it a 4 door?

Did you try to lube the lock first? There is a thread here that has dozens of 3rd gen+ with the issue dome light staying on, most common is needing lube.

I did not try lubeing the lock first because that did not cross my mind and my mechanic found out it was the passenger door ajar switch that needed to be replaced.

Thank You for sending that article. But im wondering if when i put my new passenger door ajar switch in will my dome lights turn off on their own ?

the dome light switch is in the lock, replacing the lock will replace the switch.... so most likely.... it is also quite very likely that just lubing it will fix it.

my mechanic said the passenger door ajar switch went bad or wore out.

Does the door ajar switch also control the dome lights ??
