Well, I finally got me a storage shed for my house. a nice 10' x 20' dual loft barn. They dropped that off bright and early on Tuesday (630am... ) so my week has been filled with moving some stuff out of my garage, and planning how to put it in the shed, plus the storage locker that I am renting for 110 bucks a month, also 10 x 20...) so in the daylight hours after work I took a 6 foot tall by 5 foot wide industrial shelf out of my garage to put in the shed. I have two of them. found out that the door to the shed is exactly 1 inch shorter than the effing shelf, and about a foot and a half narrower than the 6 foot width. So, for the lack of about an inch and a half clearance, I had to take the shelf completely apart and reassemble it in the shed. got one more to go. that was Tuesday and Wednesday. also moved the bikes, snow blower, and old walk behind mower to the shed. Yesterday and Today I have been making brackets to attach to the wall to store the kayaks. that was finished today after work, and now both kayaks are in the shed. need to unload the other shelf in the garage and disassemble it and move it out there, then I can put more stuff out. Goal for this weekend is to clear the garage enough to get the Ranger inside to start the brake line overhaul to get it ready for a few weeks to go to LBL.

Any of you want to come to Indy area to help with operation brakejob... I welcome your help lol

Looks good, and it looks like it fits in nice with the property, complements it

Is it pre-wired? I know you want to use that space, but I’d run Romax all over the thing, every square inch you could think about before you put much in it. You don’t have to put the switches and outlets you always down to spot.

So my future plans are to put a disconnect at the shed and a small sub panel inside to run lights and a few outlets, maybe even one 220 volt (just in case) But I have been spending money like I have money this summer, so I will probalby have the disconnect done soon but wire the shed at a later date.

My nature is pushy, but that’s not my intent. A couple more thoughts.

110/220 single phase is not rocket science, not hard, not complex. You can buy outlets for less than a dollar each, you can buy boxes for a dollar and a half, etc. The panel cost a little bit, and the copper wire is never getting any cheaper. It’s a whole lot easier to do before you put a lot of stuff in the way. The outlets and switches are so cheap, I would never buy anything but new. On the wire and the panel as long as you just inspect it (a common sense inspection), and it’s not damaged, take the break.

Having said that, put in twice the size panel and twice as many outlets as you think.

As far as the offsite rental, my two cents is to get rid of it. I rented one many moons ago for a period of five or six years. I used very little of what I stored offsite, and when I finally got rid of the rental, I threw most of it away. I could’ve easily purchased anything I actually did use out of there brand new five times over for the amount I paid rental.

Ditto putting stuff in your attic or your basement. I got hit in a tornado in 98, and everything I put in the attic got carried straight out to the curb for disposal. If you have a box in your hand, and you’re heading for the attic, or the basement, or thinking of storing it in a rental, carry it straight out to the curb.

They don't give them away but I've bought one for every home we've bought here in Illinois.

My wife would 1000% disagree with you. We have 47 totes (approx number, probably exaggerated) full of holiday decorations… and she uses every one of them. The go in the basement for storage and come upstairs every year.

As far as storage rental… I agree, they’re a complete waste of money.

Speaking of sheds, one of my summer projects this year was to build a small addition on the kids playhouse so that I have a spot to store our bikes. 6 bikes stored in my other shed is sooo annoying, I'm tripping over them and I have to move them all out if I need the wood chipper, tiller, pressure washer or the sickle bar mower... pain in the ass so they needed to move.

I built the playhouse out of junk and scrap lumber so I figured I'd do the same with the addition. It's about 75% pallets. Had to buy a few 2x4's, some 1x4's for trim and a piece of metal for the roof but everything else was basically free. I'm done with it now but but haven't taken a picture of it after completion. It is so nice not moving bikes!!!!!

Also have been learning to use my new grill, I found this on marketplace for $50 and I absolutely love it so far:

Flushed the cooling system on Beer Fetcher. I have a T in the heater hose line and flushed it that way. It ran for over a minute and a half brown before starting to clear up. While I was at it I flushed the overflow bottle and got that clean.

After the coolant flush I went out back and raked up around the pool and flower boxes where grass clipping has accumulated. By this time it was to hot and muggy to be outside so I chilled out in the house till Major's vet appointment.

When I got to the GF house this time and saw Major I told her he is getting fat. She didn't believe me, he now weighs 240 pounds, and she asked the vet if she thought he was fat? She agreed with me and now the GF has agreed to cut down the amount of kibble she is giving him. For Majors frame size he should be between 200 and 215.

Exactly. He really isn't an active dog so he doesn't need as much food as an active dog does.

Found out my dog was like.... 50% overweight and pretty much just cut back on his kibble by 1/2 cup a day and stopped giving him little licks of peanut butter.. seems to have lost most of that blubber now and it's only been a month or two.

Christmas decorations are exempt. I didn’t think I had to say that, and yes, you can’t have too much.

As I got older, I stopped putting them in the attic. I cleaned out the closet in the guest bedroom (I live alone), that became the Christmas closet.

You could have put the kids in the pallet shack and used their fort for storage and had a lot more room.

And, if you put a couple candles in a clear lampshade on top of that potbelly stove, it would look just like Robbie in Forbidden Planet.
