@lil_Blue_Ford

call me on this truck. 770.331.9324

I just talked to the guy. In addition to what’s in the picture he has the bed and the tailgate and some of the new plastic head covers.

No rust on anything
Frame is straight
Transmission and transfer case are good, actually, everything is good
4.0 engine, the chain tensioner plastic slide thing slipped/broke us, and rode to the top and cracked the plastic cover. The chain didn’t slip, it still runs, but it runs like crap. No guarantee on the engine.
Tires are supposed to be about 85%
Fiberglass hood flipped up and broke the windshield, both are still broken. That’s why it was parked.

There are some other things I need to tell you, discuss with you.

He’s firm on the $600 & he has the title.

He’s an old guy, and apparently he’s got a lot of health problems, and he has to move, which is what spurred the sale in the first place. If you want to go on this, the best time for me is to actually go down tomorrow and get it. I’ll figure out someplace to keep it temporarily.

again, call me
Sorry, been out of town. I mostly text but I can give you a ring sometime today. Sounds like a pretty ideal donor for me and a lot of parts I can use.

@lil_Blue_Ford depending on timing, if you need a helper to retrive it, I'm willing to come along. I deploy near the end of October. So, after the 24th +/-, you'll need to find someone else.
That would be great! I was trying to figure out who I could talk into helping retrieve it, lol

Like I said, the kid was going up a dirt trail behind his house by the river, got off a little bit, and when he tried to spin it back up on the road, the truck flipped on its side. It did not roll all the way over onto the roof.

It was just dented sheet metal and the windshield cracked. He took it to a bodywork buddy, who did some shade tree bodywork and repainted it. He then drove it another year, and that’s when the chain tensioner slipped on the 4.0.

This guy bought it, but like me, too many projects, and too old. He seems like a straight shooter. The fiberglass hood flipped up going down the road and broke the windshield again, but he says all the doors open and close like they’re supposed to and everything is relatively straight, no rust, etc..

looks like it’s in better shape than mine, and mine wasn’t four-wheel-drive. On the engine, he doesn’t know if the timing chain slipped and damaged anything or not. The plastic came off the chain tensioner and slipped up on top of the sprocket and broke the plastic cap

It has a new fuel pump and almost new tires.

Let me know. I can’t get it until after nationals.

Looks good enough for me, thanks for the details

Let me know if you need intermediate help with retrieval or temporary storage. Have 20 ft car trailer with winch. I’m off Wednesday and Thursday this week, work Friday thru first half of Monday. Then I’m off for 7 days with no specific plans.

If you’re really bored, I won’t turn down help, lol

So today the patched several times fuel line on the green Ranger let go again. Which means as much as I didn’t want to spend money that I don’t really have, I got to order $200-ish worth of parts that hopefully will be enough to resolve things for good. Down side is that I may end up pulling the bed to fix things. Not sure that I have enough access from below. But I don’t trust the zip tie holding things together more than the fact that it got me home. Of course it’s been on and off rain and I don’t have a garage to work in and they’re calling for rain all week after being so dry that the dirt is powder. Of course we would get rain when it’s crunch time…

Never bored. But I’d be glad to help. Keep me posted on progress, timing and actual needs.

I ordered two more shift knobs from hurst. Well, one from hurst and one from a private seller in ebay.

The flat black ball with the shift pattern matches the interior perfectly. I like it but i also ordered a t-handle to try out.

Both new knobs required adapters and the ball came with two so its on right now. I had to order a kit from hurst for the t-handle because its got different threads then the two adapters that came with the ball.

Here is the t-handle and that other one i had originally ordered.

I had a T handle on the shifter on my Mustang for a while. I really didn't like it, except that it looked good...

i have had that on something else, years ago, but i just don't remember how it felt back then. and those are cheap so i can sell it off if i don't like it and still cover what i paid and the adapter kit costs

My wife and I went for a short ride in the Ranger yesterday afternoon. As we were getting close to home I started noticing a clicking noise and figured I check it out sometime. By the time I pulled into the driveway there was a loud noise and smoke coming from under the hood. The a/c compressor pulley bearing is completely destroyed and the pulley is loose. This is the second Napa reman compressor that's been on the truck in the 8700 miles I've driven it since I built it. I'm searching for a new compressor for a 93 Mustang GT because that's where my brackets came from. "Reman" didn't used to mean freshly painted junk.

I agree with @rubydist. T handle looks about as cool as you can get, but…

I never had one, so I can’t speak from experience. When you study engineering, one of the first things they teach you is ā€œfunction over form.ā€ The thing has to work for whatever it’s supposed to do, first and foremost, and that it’s nice if it looks good. And, part of ā€œworking properlyā€ is the comfort and ease of using it, not just that it functions at its task.

if I drove it every day, I’d probably go with the ball, or with the OEM Ranger shift knob that’s kind of cone shaped with the relatively flat tap with the shift pattern on it. If it was one of my funky weekend toys, I’d get the T handle, but may be twice as big and black and red!

At the end of the day, it’s whatever you like

I like the feel of the stock knobs (i wonder if thats going in some quote thread) but i really like the texture and weight of the one in that picture.

The first shiny black one i had on there was ok but would get hot. It was also slippery.

Summit listed a new compressor but the detail said it had a 9 groove serpentine pulley. A 9 groove pulley would be close to 2" wide and it didn't sound right so I called them. It has a 6 groove pulley and should be here next Wednesday. I stuck my last leaky compressor back on to use it as an idle pulley so I can drive the truck. I hope the new one holds up, I don't need more practice replacing them.
