What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

afterthought, if he can’t hold it, we can do it anyway, I just have to figure out where to store it for a little bit
It can sit at my place a for a while.

Replaced my 239k mile driver's door hinges today. Went to Carquest 2 days ago and bought 2 kits (4 pins) for a pretty good price, only to arrive yesterday to pick them up and hear "uhhh, there was a problem with your order." Turns out they price the individual parts in a kit as separate pieces. Total BS. So I got 1 kit for the price of 2. Even after a 15 minute conversation with the manager, I walked away knowing that they still don't understand what a kit is.
Installed it today. Easy 30 minute job that took FOUR HOURS because Dorman.
Had to hog out the hinges to give the bushings a shot at pressing in without breaking (1 did- I think someone else on here pointed out at some point that those kits are garbage) and then the copper bushings were compressed enough that I had to hog them out to get the pins in. Wicked fun.
Anyway, it's 98% better than it was, and that'll do me just fine for a while.

Used the farm tractor and a chain to do some redneck straightening to my 92 to get the fan and radiator to stop interfering and make sure the front bumper was out of the way of the front tire. Tried to start it but the starter wouldn’t kick out, so I dragged it with the farm tractor out of the yard and loaded it up to move to a family friends for now. Unfortunately I had to give it a little bump and bumped it too hard and pulled it all the way over the tow dolly, so I had to jack it up and block up under the tires until it could be rolled back on the dolly. Fun times.

mine is out wandering the countryside without me...... there is a bobby walter in it.....just not this one.

yes. i have my reservations.

I dealt with the redness, and then wire brushed my balls.

I caulked a couple oops holes in the deck. I’ll put a dab of silver on them before clear coat my balls and the deck.

except for a marathon session, polishing wheels, that just leaves the AC on the truck, and some routine maintenance before the long

edit: something weird happened with this post. If coupled with a couple other posts. I think I got it cleaned up.

I just talked to the guy. In addition to what’s in the picture he has the bed and the tailgate and some of the new plastic head covers.

No rust on anything
Frame is straight
Transmission and transfer case are good, actually, everything is good
4.0 engine, the chain tensioner plastic slide thing slipped/broke us, and rode to the top and cracked the plastic cover. The chain didn’t slip, it still runs, but it runs like crap. No guarantee on the engine.
Tires are supposed to be about 85%
Fiberglass hood flipped up and broke the windshield, both are still broken. That’s why it was parked.

There are some other things I need to tell you, discuss with you.

He’s firm on the $600 & he has the title.

He’s an old guy, and apparently he’s got a lot of health problems, and he has to move, which is what spurred the sale in the first place. If you want to go on this, the best time for me is to actually go down tomorrow and get it. I’ll figure out someplace to keep it temporarily.

again, call me 770.331.9324

I was going to say the same. Unfortunately I looked at the map and it'd be headed in the wrong direction.

@lil_Blue_Ford depending on timing, if you need a helper to retrive it, I'm willing to come along. I deploy near the end of October. So, after the 24th +/-, you'll need to find someone else.

Perfect. I have a tow bar and a tow dolly. Neither would be a problem for me to bring. I’ll either have to find an extra driver to help me with the trip or a place I can stop on the way down and up and work out details, but yeah. That works.

My parents are also going to be looking for a good Explorer as soon as I can finish fixing dad’s one Ranger and they sell the current Explorer. I’ll keep you posted on that. They want a solid 4x4 or AWD Explorer that is in good shape to replace their rusty stuff and get rid of the Murano that none of us like.

yoo hoo!

@lil_Blue_Ford. Call me on this truck! There’s a little bit more you need to know before I plunk down the cash. It’ll just take a minute.

I knew I’ve heard horror stories of the fiberglass Powerdome hood separating and flying off… good to know I’m not going crazy.

…also new fear because I have the Edge trim with that very hood.

Put my lights on today, the ditch lights are wired, the bar isn’t because I ran out of heat shrink.

Drove that sob. Back to being the dd, my only wheels 4 now. Did not have for 2 days. That's stressful.
