I found a '96 Explorer that a guy was parting out, for $100 with the springs and disc brakes. I could have had the sway bar and parking brake cables as well, but it was 20 degrees and I didn't want to dink with it.

I am putting a pinion seal and axle seals in it while it is out but it didn't really need them, the bearings look perfect and the ring gear has a really nice pattern on it. Clutch kit was $60 from Carquest.

Looks perfect inside, as far as I can tell hadn't seen daylight since it was put together, and had just under 100k on it.

Yes, but do you get my point?

What do you want it for Gen1-2 or gen3-up?

I have both.

3rd generation Explorer is IRS, less than ideal for a Ranger swap... the 1st and 2nd generation Ex's are the only ones that are worth looking at unless you are just wanting the guts of one.

IRS ones do have a nifty finned cast aluminum cover with a drain plug though...

Yeah, he said explorer axle, that's 20 feet in the other direction:)
