Folks, the Geek Squad scam is out again this year. The emails you receive will look similar to the below. I've received 3 of them in as many days.

They all have come from a gmail account (so far) and contain the messed up text highlighted in yellow. All have the Dear user salutation. The real Geek Squad would have your name. More over, they had an Authorization code starting with AZ. PAY ATTENTION out there

The scams never seem to end. If it isn't one thing, it's another. People must still be falling for it, or they would stop doing it.

If someone falls for that, they almost deserve it.

Seems like with an 888 number, they could be easily tracked down.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Geek squad dont even exist anymore do they?

People respond in a panic and that's how they get you. Think seniors living on a fixed income who have laptops and panic that much money is taken from their account. They call the number - in a state of panic. That's where the monetary pilfering begins.
"If you call the number — which you should not do — the scammer might ask for remote access to your computer. If you give it to them, they can install spyware programs on your computer, steal your online banking credentials, and drain money from your bank account. "

Gotta take care of my homies

Personally... I don't understand how an image that's so incredibly low effort could EVER be reasonably assumed to have been sent by a company that has the amount of billions of dollars that best buy has.

I really don't.

If these scumbags actually TRIED... and the image that shows up in the email seemed like it was at least created in the 21st century... woah boy. Imagine how many more millions of dollars they'd wrangle out of granny..

Street smarts people! Don't even need many of them. Even just a few will keep you from being scammed. Not even a few... 1.125 units of street smart would probably do it..

Better yet, become computer savvy and don't use Geek Squad at all? Not practical for all but for most in this day and age. Keep the computer up to date (at least weekly).

Wish I could say that. Samsung flip phone. Did everything I really needed. Should never have let it go.

They are getting better at it though, i get scam calls with my local area code. One had pretended to be my electric company and I almost fell for it.

I still have a bag phone!
Tho I haven't used it in 20 years. Maybe it's time to chuck it?

I dunno about chunking it. You've had it this long, and you never know . . . some not-so-old electronics sell for stupid money.
