The Shoney’s is closed, has been for years. There’s like an oversized garage on the back, left corner of the property, and that’s where this guy operates out of. I bring him a new valve stem, he takes the old tire off the wheel, puts my new tire on the wheel, installs the valve and balances it for $20. I have to take the old tires away and my impression is whether you do two or 20 it would still be $20 a set.

He’s about a mile outside 285 on Peachtree industrial, on the service road. That’s in DeKalb County, not Forsyth, it’s not that far up.

Usually they’re a flat or silver/gray, and the highlights on the holes are black. New, they are flat or silver/gray, and the highlights on the holes are black. The trucks that had them usually had trim rings. I just need one clean straight wheel, I’m going to clean it and sand it and paint it anyway. And BTW, I’m looking for $25 like you find them in the Pull a Part. I know where I can buy one now, but not at that price

Ah, a closed Shoney's. Yeah, those are all over the place. Going to the other side of Atlanta might be a little far to make it worth it. That price is better than what I'm being told around here, but will still add up for the number I'm going to need to do. About three sets (12 wheels & tires) I need to get done. Wouldn't save enough to pay for the gas.

Tires off my truck on the wheels on dad's. Oversized tires we pulled off dad's truck a years ago on my wheels. Tires currenty on dad's truck on the left over wheels to have rolling stock for one of the vehicles in the yard. I'd just put the oversized wheels and tires on my truck for now, but that set of wheels won't fit with my locking hubs. Dad has a Harbor Freight manual tire changer, but I'm not looking forward to the idea of using it for all of those.

Don't want to get your hopes up, but those look like the ones on the 85. I'm not sure if it has 14s or 15s. Picture of door tag shows 14s but a previous owner has changed things. I'll try to remember to check tomorrow. They are currently on that truck, but it won't see the road for a long time. I intend to run Mustang wheels (03/04 Mach or aftermarket Magnum 500) when I get it up and going and won't need these. If they are what you need I'll see if I can shuffle things around enough to get them off.

Fired it up for the first time in about a month, pulled it out of the garage and warm up while I backed the tractor into the garage and worked on it. Almost got up to full operating temp... and then I put it back into the garage.

Supposed to be getting a bunch of snow so it it is in reserve just in case I need plan C.

My green Ranger moved from one end of the driveway to the other and back to where it started yesterday and that’s about it. It’s cold, wet and snowy (very muddy too) and I have other things that need handled at the moment so auto work has largely been halted

Started claims process for the hit-and-run damage to my Ranger. The insurance agent warned all the body shops are backlogged, and I found I can't even get an estimate from the nearest shop in the insurer's system until next Monday, the 15th.

It's being treated as an uninsured-motorist claim, so I'll be out $200 for deductible.

@Rick W unfortunately the ones on this truck are 14s. I'll keep my eyes open for a 15.

If you find yourself needing another set of 14s for a future project, these will be around.

Amen, I do a lot of crazy stuff to save a few pennies, but changing my own tires is not one of them. Usually is the best $20 I ever spend.

My Shoney’s shed guy stays pretty busy, and you might have to leave that many wheels and tires because his main business is selling the used tires and mounting them. He wouldn’t want to do a $20 job in the way of a 60 or $70 job.

My other guy a little further away, he’ll do that in a heartbeat, he did a whole bunch of stuff I needed done when I was coming out of my injury and illness. But your best bet would probably be to leave them and then come back for them. He’s in NORCROSS.

I’m sure if you hunt around down there you can find somebody who’ll take a tire off and put a tire on for $20, with balance. Go to the shady side of town and check with the used tire dealers.

On your wheel, I greatly greatly appreciate it, and that looks like it is the wheel, but I don’t want you to go to any extra effort for me. Not that I don’t appreciate it, but those wheels are around and I’ll find one without you having to come up from Macon for a $25 wheel that I’ll probably find free anyway. Keep it in the back of your mind, but again, don’t do anything special for me, it sounds like you have your own pile of fun like I do, and I don’t need it for a while.

For the first time in probably 10 years, I actually filled up the truck, the Missing Linc, in the morning and had to fill it up again on my last trip home. I went about 40 miles north east of me, then reversed and went down by the airport south east of me, then swung by the house, and then I had to go back up to the north east again.

Let me digress and say that when I was like 17 years old, I didn’t have any fear, and I’d drive something as rickety is this thing at 70 miles an hour in ignorant bliss. I kind of surprised myself today, when 2/3 of my travel was at 75 miles an hour, and I know better. Lincoln loved it for about the first half.

Half of it was real estate stuff, but the other half is the stuff that dreams are made of.

I found a $2500 Jenn-Air gas grill with a 40 pound tank for $80. It’s the Jade Appliances older one, not the cheap stuff made by NexGrill now. It needs a new grating, but other than that it’s built like a brick you know what house. It’s a little bigger than I wanted for the ‘Raith project, but how can you go wrong with a Jenn-Air? You could really feel the weight in the back of the Missing Linc.

But the real icing on the cake, the whipped cream, the cherry on top: I found the short barber chair I’ve been looking for!

(happy dance, happy dance, happy dance)

And even sweeter than that, the chair was FREE. I’m not even going to cloud your heads with the plans for this thing. It will be reupholstered when installed.

I also picked up, in two trips, five more of my 185/65/14 tires, for a total of $70. That actually gives me two extras at this point.

Have I ever mention to you guys that I love Craigslist?

Some more notes on yesterdays adventures that I forgot last night...

For the first time in YEARS the '90 actually has some color in the oil, and when I checked it the level was at the top of full, weird...

The dome light switches didn't fix themselves, dangit...

Turn signals and tail lights are in working order which is pretty sweet

Alignment is worse than it was last time but it's just the toe from the passenger upper ball joint sleeve. Also I'm positive I have the same thing going on that 85_ranger4x4 was fighting with his spindle bearings and outer axle... hubs unlocked it's silent up front through like 65mph, hubs locked in and it vibrates starting about 35mph with an odd squeaking at slow speed...

Same style, but smaller diameter. Who said anything about $25. If it was the right size I'd give it to you. Since it's the wrong size, I'll leave the truck on them until I get ready to start working on it. After that, the only use I'll have for them is rolling stock for shuffling things around, and potentially trailer wheels. They'll be here if you have a need for them down the road.

Oddly enough, I'm more willing to burn the gas to give away a $25 wheel, than to save $25 (actually bigger difference) on getting tires mounted and balanced.

I drive down a foggy road, picked up some new wheels, and cleaned my shop in prep to installed new OffRoad Design greasable Kevlar leaf spring bushings tomorrow.

Sounds a bit more like what you did In/With your Ranger.
