What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

I finally put a larger reservoir on for the clutch and that seemed to fix the sloppy pedel and shifting issue and after bleeding again. Those modern drive line external slave cylinders must need more fluid to push through especially since the use a 4 an line instead of 3an.

I beat on it a little bit. Probably my last offroad adventure for the year.

Dented my beer can and got dirt in it.

Eric, when I get around to building a bumper I might have to include that feature, sometimes the flat spots in camp just aren't flat enough...

I tried changing the door jamb switch for the dome light on the '90 but it didn't fix the issue so I got discouraged...

One of the snapper mowers runs great, the other not so much, I think I got a bum coil since it ran for like 2 minutes then quit and only backfires and acts like the timing is off.

I managed to get my hands on a couple magnetic beer coozies, so I’ll just stick it right to the truck wherever is convenient at the moment

I have one of those, it's about shot now... even handier is the Harbor Freight ones that I have on my riding mower and tractor, I just think it'd be funnier if there was a permanent beer holder in the bumper...

I finally got around to finishing up the mount for the tablet. For those who don't know, the tablet is needed to run the OnX Offroad or Gaia app with pre-downloaded maps. Cell signal can not be counted on while riding on a lot of trails and unless you have a dedicated GPS, you need something other than the standard Garmin or Magellan. Either of those will mostly work in a public place, like Land Between the Lakes, but you will be missing some information. Running a tablet is a cheaper alternative than the Garmin Offroad model and the display is much easier to read on the trail than most dedicated GPS units because of the screen size.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. The mount I bought would probably work better if the seat mount bolts were vertical instead of at an angle but they aren't. So, one has to work with what they have. Because of the way I have to bolt in the mount, the flex arm bounces around too much. It needs some bracing. I picked up a couple of Adele Clamps and some hardware from the hardware store and dug out some scrap pieces of 5/16" stainless steel tubing I have for another project. I crushed the ends of the tubing, rounded the ends so there isn't any sharp, pokey bits, and drilled holes so the tubing can be bolted to the clamps for the vertical brace.

It made a difference but not enough since there is still movement from side to side. Using another scrap piece of 5/16" tubing and some fasteners from the scrounge box, I made a horizontal brace that runs from the upper Adele Clamp over to a radio mounting screw. Now there is not a lot of movement, at least when trying to move the mount by hand. On/off road, the story may be different.

Stumbled on this on Hemmings Auctions Daily on a BII, did a little research on the web & pulled the trigger on 1 for my Ranger.
I didn't know they exsisted ! Pretty neat & useful addition I think. 😀 Good price too. Ebay has an OBB listing for $19.99.
Pretty cheap ! They come in 4 different colors (Silver, Blue, Red & Black) with the letter(s) stating the color @ the end of the part #.
I got the 2470B, the blue 1. I think they come in 16psi too.

Mr. Gasket 2470B Domestic Thermocap 13 Psi-Blue | eBay

Well I popped the cap on & it looks pretty cool ! Glad I got it. Seems to read pretty well too.
I put the hood struts on a few months ago.
While I had the hood up I thought I'd really READ the info lable on the center of the radiator support for the 1st time since I
got the truck 14 1/2 yrs ago. When I noticed the oil grade I was a little suprised that it stated to use 10w-30. I've always gone
w/the recomended 5w-30 that's in the owners manual. Has anyone else noticed this & is it a typo ?

Ford must have been in the middle of a transition from 10W to 5W and not everything got changed. At least you know you can run 10W and not worry about the oil passages being too small to handle it.

You can use your U-shaped airline pillow when you crawl in the passenger side floorboard upside down to use that microphone.

Hope it helps…

Went down my local ditch line right before putting my sliders on over the weekend and found it pretty sloppy from all the recent rain. Had to get out and lock the hubs in so of course I snapped a pic. Pics never seem to do this ditch line justice, it’s a steep climb out, and the bottom is deceiving as it’s slick clay muck just under the layer of dead brush.
