Does anyone remember the mini truck scene in the late '80s to mid '90s?

The Japanese pickups were reliable with bulletproof drivetrains, but they liked to rust after a certain point. That's why you see so few older ones today.

what most people dont know.....at least two of those dents were in there brand new BEFORE it left the dealer lot....

because.....Jersey. there in no such thing as a car without a dent.....
I bought a full size Bronco out of NYC years ago… there wasn’t a single square inch of that thing that wasn’t damaged. I swear that fiberglass roof was somehow bent. It looked like it was parked right out in front of a biker bar on nickel beer night. But, it was $400, it ran, it had heat… perfect for winter.

I had a little S10 and it was a hoot. Just 2wd, the smaller V6 standard. I miss it.
But the one I miss the most was a late 70s Toyota 2wd. It had a rusty box so I took the box off, and unbolted the frame extensions and made a wooden flat deck with 4x4s and some cedar 2x6s, some aftermarket brakelights and built a 2x2x4' wood cargo box. I took that thing everywhere

I got into it in the early 00s, still trying to keep it alive
You still have that funky roof on your '92? I know back in the day that thing was in a constant state of change :)

If I ever get adventurous enough to figure out how to go from VHS to digital I have a VHS of some mini truck show from back in the day that I found at good will a few years ago, there's one truck with like 14 chrome shocks on one axle...

Ah the days I was in my teens and all my friends had the little lowered trucks. My poor butt was driving a 1970 Maverick, but I had those No Fear sticker all over😁 Mom had a late 70s Datsun pickup at the time, but wouldn't let me get near it.

Sounds like you need a new Maverick done up mini truck style.

funny you should say that, because the Mavericks have re-invigotrated the mini truck scene. tons of pics on FB and the interwebs of lowered mavericks. some real sick builds IMO.

as far as "Z rack" go, they're still doing it.

FYI, they still have the "mini nat" ( mini truck nationals ) convention every year. I beleive the next one is in North Carolina

Nah the new Mavericks like most newer trucks don't do it for me. Guess I'm ruined by owning an original.
I owned a '72 Maverick once. Although it was bulletproof, I think I'd rather have the new version.

Some guys are swapping out Escape guages and other parts into thier Mavericks.

yeah, lots of mods are being done on the new mavericks using stuff from other ecoboosts. people are doing 6 speed swaps using focus st and rs parts, too. and they are using forscan do get in and make all kinds of cool changes (that i would be scared to do, ha ha ha) to the audio/video stuff

Yeah, i broke it the first time out so it's been a permanent convertible for 12 years now. I talked to someone about making a new one but haven't followed up. I did get this at pullapart Monday if i ever decide to go back lol.
