Ground wire 1994 Ranger 3.0 auto

So I know this is totally a stupid question but here it goes...
I have a ground wire hanging down by the starter and I assume that just goes to the block. Am I correct? Thanks again for any and all help.

That is typically connected to a starter bolt with a jamb nut. At least it is on a 4.0L...

There are 4 important Grounds in most vehicles
Larger battery Negative cable ground to starter motor/bell housing bolt is the Main Ground for starter motor and alternator, and engine and trans electrics
Engine and trans sit on rubber mounts, so there is no "ground" connection to frame or body

So there are 3 more grounds
There should be a ground wire or strap from back of engine head to Firewall, usually to wiper motor bolt or near that area,
This is the ground for all cab electrics, including computer
(Heads up, literally, lol, this ground strap is often left off after engine work, will cause all sorts of odd electrical issues)

Ground from battery negative to Rad support/inner fender, usually smaller wire, part of that battery connector's terminal
Ground for front lights, horn and any inner fender relays

Engine to frame ground wire or strap, can be on motor mount bolts, or from block to frame rail on either side of engine bay
Ground for rear lights, fuel pump, trailer lights, may also be used for some front lights

Secondary ground straps are from cab to frame, under side of cab
Bed to frame, under side of bed


When a vehicle is assembled ALL the parts are painted FIRST, then assembled, so there are no "good" bare metal to bare metal grounds anywhere
