Muffler setup

Good evening all. I am installing new cats (old ones broke) and welding new mufflers on my truck. They are 2 12” flow through mufflers and after the cats all 2.50” dia. The cats should be fine, might be a PITA to remove the old ones but it’s a drop in replacement unless I’m missing something. But for the mufflers, is there any change in sound or performance or anything between the two layouts? (Attached pics) thanks 😁

I'd go with the mufflers close to the Y. I'd also want more muffler than that behind a V6, between the size of those mufflers and splitting the flow through 2 of them, they aren't going to muffle it much.
 
Here's mine. Y is attached right on the cat. No muffler at all. Plates in the ends are to tune the back pressure. Took a lot of fiddling to get it right. Take those out, it's LOUD! Leave them in, it's bearable. LOL!! I actually hear more intake noise than exhaust. Hood has heat extractor vents, intake makes a lot of racket due to the holey hood.

The people have spoken, I guess the mufflers are going closer to the Y. I attached a picture of what I have now, same brand but it’s a 36” single, which makes it deeper and slightly louder not much. I guess if it’s too loud, I can always go back.
 
Whatever difference in sound the placement makes will sooner than later be rendered null... the packing in those 'mufflers' (glasspacks) will relatively quickly deteriorate.. leaving you with essentially a straight pipes.

Those are basically homemade Supertrap mufflers you're showing us. They change the sound by adding plates to the end instead of inside the pipe and they cost a lot more than you spent getting the same result.

I know it. I am a bike rider. Have been since 1976. Never owned a Supertrap though. Never cared for the look of them. Always preferred Yoshimura. My 2008 Suzuki GSX-1300 B-King has them.

You "guess" it's too loud? Sometimes I wear ear plugs when I drive mine long distances. The seven miles to work and back are fine though. LOL

What is relatively quickly? Mine is one year old, it’s packed with glass and it’s nowhere near a straight pipe level of sound.

How often do you drive it? Ive had glass packs go from """"""muffling"""""" to being nothing more than a swell in the pipe In the matter of a few months on a daily driver..

Right on. Not bad... I've seen some spew out the perforation and the packing it holds in a pretty short amount of time after install lol.

Like a part number for the mufflers? I got them on Summit.
