Does anyone remember the mini truck scene in the late '80s to mid '90s?

I remember.

But I try real hard to forget it.

One of these days I might get serious about breaking the 1,000 watt barrier. Once I get a few things fixed anyway. I was really close back in the day, I had an amp that put out 915 watts all bridged down. Unfortunately someone stole that amp off me several years back. Like to catch the thieves around here sometime…

That said, even what I have now doesn’t get turned up stupid loud unless I want to make a point.
There’s some rules when you own a system.

Never bump your subs around town. (That just gives away which vehicle a thief should be looking for.)
Never bump your subs around work. (Same reason as above.)
Don’t ever tell anyone you don’t trust 1000% what you have. Even then, think twice.

The 1000 watt barrier was easy. Trying to hit 2000 was killing alternators, and stupid loud.

A kid in our body shop had a lowered and fart mufflered 4 cylinder Ranger with "LOW4SHO" on the license plates. The only way to make a fart muffler sound good is to shut the engine off.

My current Ranger has a 4/5 drop. Here’s a pic of it wearing its winter shoes.

It’s a start, but it’s no old school style mini truck.

I saw one sticker "If you're having car troubles, I feel for you son. This bitch still running after 25 years" (on back window of Ranger).

I had a '69 Datsun 1300 while stationed in Hawaii 1985 - 1992. Photo from internet, mine was identical.
NRMC Pearl Harbor and 3RD MARINES.

You got there right after my stepdad got orders for us to leave. We were at kaneohe for three years and left around 83/84. He worked on f4 phantoms

HUH? WHAT DID YOU SAY??

There was a time I aspired to build a mini truck that could 3 wheels and a dancing bed.

I think they call em Z gates or something. I was very enamored by the dancing beds. Not much out there looking for videos. Found a good Japan lowrider scene on Youtube with some mini truck bed dancing footage. Besides that it was over the top too much time and money show/contest stuff.

The awesome thing about low rider builds is how rudimentary it is and actually works....most of time...but hey Ferraris have recalls too.

I heard S10 frames are sought after because they are the most flat basic rectangle platform to start with for mini truck lowriders & hot rod customs etc.

Exactly. My green Ranger, the radio is usually at a volume level of 5 or 6 anymore. Goes up to like 40 or so, but it never gets turned up that high.

My stereo in the house (I had everything run through two receivers then an equalizer) I can’t turn up past like 2 without vibrating everything.

I might have a fascination with electrical…

I had the notion of making flat panel speakers after watching this guy: https://hackaday.com/2019/10/26/building-the-worlds-best-dml-speakers-for-under-115/

Guess it doesn't have much low frequency response, but if one doesn't have room for speakers, these could be hung on the wall or ceiling.

A friend of mine had a new ‘88 S10 back in the day, he put a lowering kit on, crazy wide wheels with very little sidewalls. Was lower to the ground than most cars. Handled corners quite well. He still has it, out at his parents in the weeds, Not sure how long its been setting.
My first ranger was a ‘88 I bought used in ‘91. I remember the “craze” but it didn’t appeal to me, The ‘88 was a 2wd 2.3 supercab in crystal blue clearcoat mettalic. Seemed a different shade of blue depending on the lighting. I wanted to lift it if anything. I did add a black grille guard, ‘glass cap, running boards & trailer hitch. Sent the original alloy wheels out & had the spiderwebbing clearcoat stripped & wheels polished. That was the best over all 2.3 Ive ever had, truck had almost 100K on it when I bought it and over 200K when I traded it in. It still looked good so the dealer thought it only had 103K instead of 203K. this was before vehicles had that extra digit. I let them beleive it. I did get it in the readers rides page of sport truck magazine. That was kind of cool.
