My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
Currently i carry a snub .38, but now that bears have been spotted literally where we camp/ride i think i wanna get something more.

Obviously my 12ga is ideal but not exactly easy or legal to pack on the quad.

Im leaning .357 so i can use my stash of .38 for plinking, but ive also been thinking of a .44mag.

Whats your guys opinions? No i dont want a semiauto, just not my tastes.

Yes also have bearspray, shooting it would be a total last resort, and these are blackbears, im not super worried but i really dont wanna wake up to one chewing my leg off.

So basically....woods/trail gun....357 or 44mag?

Or should i just get a longer barrel .38 and call it good?

The .357 sounds like the most practicable choice if you want to stay with a revolver.

While the .44 is more potent, you'd lose the ammo compatibility (and not being able to plink / practice with cheaper .38 rounds in your bear gun). A .44 would cost more to feed (less practice), and the recoil could be unpleasant (not fun to shoot a lot).

On the other hand, if you're wanting to up your firepower, it's a damn good excuse to add a .44 to your armory.

Are grenades an option?

What you are leaning toward is what I was gonna suggest.

The Taurus tracker is a good one. Double action, adjustable sights, relatively light, and holds a 7th round. Nice rubber grips too.

I carry either a S&W Shield in 9mm or a Glock 21 in 45ACP. I don't have bears to worry about though, just dogs, mountain lions and tweakers.

Aw yea the S&W shield 9mm does hold carry and tuck nice. A chick I was dating had one, and I took her shooting just to try it out lol.

Ruger SP101.
My favorite revolver. Wife loves it too
Weight is nice. Low recoil. 357/38sp. A bit pricey nowadays, but does let you go plinkin.'

It depends on the type of bear. Black bear, a .357 Magnum will work. Anything bigger, .44 Magnum.

If you need a hand cannon. There's plenty of options. .41 mag, .454 casull. .500 S&W .475 linebaugh....or yea a .44.
