Godzilla vs the Powerboost vs Ranger.

that engine in its first iteration was 8 liters plus....Mullaly shelved it with a bunch of other stuff when he came in to right the ford ship.

when they dusted it off and started playing with it again....max efficiency was the lead factor.....not kicking the gen 6 GM big blocks ass.....as it was long gone at that point...

it is basically a LS ripoff on steroids..... they really dropped the ball on the oil system though. i dont like the cylinder spacing either with the slits....but it actually works in all out applications...

the reason it is a 7.3.....is because that is the max efficiency window....all things considered.

i am waiting on some other details...then i will update.

Dudes I've camped next to the last couple years at the Ford Nationals, one of them has a F-250 4x4 Crew Cab 8' bed, tows a massive 5th wheeler.
Me: "You got the new Godzilla motor in that?"
Him: "No, standard 6.8."
Me: "It tows that huge camper okay?"
Him: "Yup, no problem."
Me: "Impressive."
Not as impressive as the guy in their crew with the Boss 529 Pro Street Cougar though.

A F-250 shouldn’t be pulling a “massive” 5th wheel. I have a 18,000 lb 5th wheel and pull it with F350 4x4 8’ bed with the 7.3 with 4:30 gears. It’s enough for my truck.

One of the trucks I help convert to tow massive 5th wheels;

6.8 is the V10 which was the midsized option.

My brother has a customer with a 6.2. He was sad because he blew a tire on his fifth wheel. Somebody flagged him down and he checked the mirrors to see there was a stream of insulation fluff in the air behind him.

Pretty much destroyed the side of his camper and the 6.2 didn't even downshift or otherwise give any indication anything was amiss.

Must've been the 6.2 then, V10 was out of production by then I think, his truck was pretty new.
I worked briefly for an HVAC company a few years ago and they had an F-550 stake body with a V10. Granted it was pretty heavy but it was a total dog and horrible on gas.

We got a F250 service truck. Its an 05 i think with a 3v 5.4. Its got a reading service body and enough tools, compressors, and other shit for it to ride almost on the overloads.

I drove it a time or two and it didnt really hurt for power.

My best friend has two V10 F-350's, both 6 speed sticks. One is his daily and the other is rusted yard art. I've driven his "good" one and it's not impressive, I'm pretty sure my Ranger is faster. I've read that the dealers are the ones who screwed up the V10's by ordering most of them with 3.73 gears for better mpg when the motor needs to spin some to make power and in reality it helped neither when the motor really needed 4.30's.
The one that's yard art now has headers on it, manifolds cracked and it was cheaper to get headers, but he said they made little difference.

Ive driven a few V10's and yes they like to spin. Compared to my 460 they feel pretty mushy off the line, but on a 60-80 run id get spanked.

I cant imagine the MPG difference between 3.73 and 4.30's would be that massive when youre talking low double digits at best.

But a reg cab long box V10 4wd with a 6speed and 4.30's would be bad ass.

I'm not sure what his yard art has for gears but that's what it is. If he ever wants to sell it I'll let you know. Needs to be rebodied. Won't pass state inspection any more so he uses it to haul dirt and firewood from one end of his property to the other.

We dont have inspections in MI :)

Yeah, that's how bobbywalter gets away with his rig.
My bud's truck you'll be starting and stopping like Fred Flintstone though.

I always thought that 6.8 was small for a V10. Why bother.

Dodges V10 was 8.0 even that is a bit low for anything more then a class 2 or 3. Less displacement per cylinder then the mighty 4.9.

The V10 was supposed to be a more fuel efficient replacement for the 460. Thing is, OHC motors are better at making power at higher rpm and trucks and RV's generally need low end torque. This is why they went back to a 2v OHV design for the Godzilla motor. OHV engines are better at making low end power.
