What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Next time roll down the windows.

That is a great idea, it honestly never occurred to me while driving thru mud in a snowstorm...

Day two of winter daily driving and I am starting to think about different wheel offset or mudflaps.

Couldn't hardly see out of the side windows the mud was so thick.

I vote mud flaps. They make a huge difference for various things

So, I went out today, jacked up the last corner of the green Ranger and got a tire on. Ran straps and a come along to a tree and winched it forward so I have room again. Both bumpers got tweaked, front valance ripped off, one fog light broken, tailgate dented and scratched, handle is oddly tweaked but works, fuel tank punctured and the frame got a ding on each side. It’s where I was intending to plate, but still upsetting.

I also have more problem. The front really could stand to be a bit lower. There’s still some adjustment to the keys, but the A-arms are pretty much on the bump stops. In the rear, I’m maybe an 1.5” off the bump stops, the leaf springs are almost flattened against the overloads. Pinion angle is way wrong and the rear is sitting significantly lower than the front currently. Rear seems surprisingly springy still, I might be able to get away with adding one more leaf to the packs but I’m not exactly sure if that will get me where I want or not.

Keep in mind you have a lot of stuff in the bed or at least you did when I was there. That will effect where it's sitting at. Granted, you'll still want more than the .5" to .75" or so that the rear will raise when you unload all that stuff.

So since you were here I actually cleaned a bunch of that stuff out. Granted, whats still in there that isn’t supposed to live in there probably still is a hundred lbs or so. I was surprised that with the modified leaf packs I could still push down on the tailgate and get roughly 0.5” of downward travel without my entire body weight. I’m thinking I want to be a little stiffer than that. I’ll check my other trucks and try to get a more accurate measure of deflection and I’m going to pull some more stuff out of the bed because the bed may have to come off to deal with the gas tank anyway.

Got the transmission for the '90 apart, cleaned and 90% assembled and found the cage broken on one of the two pocket bearings for the reverse gear... so in the next couple days I'll try to make it to a trans parts shop and get those and the two iron single use nuts (that've already been reused once...). So I guess I'll just finish cleaning up the tail housing then move to changing the clutch and maybe put the new master cylinder in place...
