I picked up a 533 last year- it's sweet.

85_Ranger, I hate to see you cooking in a steel food can- they have (usually) plastic liners to prevent rust and that stuff outgasses and incorporates into your food...stay safe.

After deciding that a small stove was very feasible to pack while hunting i went on a search for better cookware that is simple and light.

$6 stainless cup from wally world should be good enough for warming up soup. If it falls apart... $6 wasted. Silverware was cheap too, about the same price.

The initial plan that day was to hunt with my brother. So i had two cans of soup in the truck and swiped a saucepan from the kitchen to eat at the truck at the farm before we actually went out. Turned out i killed enough time waiting on him (who decided to take a nap and not answer his phone) that spurred me to just eat on the go in the bush... and i didnt want to drag a fullsize pan along.

I kicked around bass pro over the weekend (pretty sure the same cup was like $15 there) and noticed this in the laser shooting range.

Was there a moment of silence for the Coleman lantern used for a target? Someone shot the glass out.

Everybody is always blathering about how great propane lanterns are. So I did the right thing and snagged one to see for myself.





"Dual beam" because it goes out like a Coleman or whatever but the bottom of the it is wire mesh so it will also shine straight down. It has keyholes on the back so you can directly hang it on a wall or post.

Doesn't really have much for guts.



According to the very little info I have been able to find the "60" means it was made in 1960.



As near as I can figure you screw this angle piece onto the propane bottle and stick it in the air tube that goes down the mantle. Mine is missing the sealing o-ring. And then there is a chain to hold the propane tank from accidentally coming out the top... I think.



Anyway, I thought the thing was neat looking.

That's pretty cool...

I've done a pretty good job or avoiding my collecting instincts for awhile now... but it might of been hard to pass up. Will look good hanging out with the rest of your collection. Great color!

I keep forgetting to get pictures of it, about a year ago @ericbphoto and I made a deal to trade a lantern for a cooler at the trail ride.

Here is the cooler I got:



Its from the 60's and is a neat size, it worked really well on our way back from the trail ride.

Snagged this little guy at a thrift store for $2, to date it is my only thrift store Coleman find. Made in 1976.



And my newest find is this one from '82 to go with my camper display:





I think I am done with coolers...

Finally found something neat!







A kinda neat thing with the mil spec stuff is onboard parts/tool storage.

Spare generator clips on the burner frame support in a little tin box.





A big gnarly wrench locks on the other two burner frame supports.



Other parts including a pump leather are stored in the pump well... which so far I can't get open.

They had a bunch of companies that made this for the US military between 1950 and the mid '80's including Coleman. And this one is actually a Coleman!



The different suppliers are all basically the same thing made to the same standard with interchangeable parts so make isn't really that big of a deal. It is a M1950 stove, a slightly improved version of the WWII stove. Replaced by a diesel powered one in the '80's which was in turn replaced by the self heating MRE later on.

Kinda neat, been wanting a military stove since I got into this hobby and this one by dumb luck happens to be within a year of my mil spec lantern. The lady was selling it for her dad and had it worded weird, like camp burner or something like that with no mention of Coleman or stove. Had been listed 10 weeks and I had never came across it until FB suggested it. Pump doesn't build pressure and the feet look nasty. I think it had a fuel leak while stored which messed up the lower paint and possibly the feet as well (steel vs aluminum can get get weird on its own too. Otherwise it looks really nice, I don't think it has been used much and the fount looks new where the paint has fallen off. She did say her dad took it to Alaska and used it up there... I am going to guess it was just for the one trip.

The weird alien looking pump these things have:





Tried to oil the leather, so far it hasn't came around. Or the cap gasket leaks. Or both.

I got no gurgles and since it is all kinda one thing I can't cheat and stick my thumb over the the filler neck to check the pump. So it needs parts.

Well this inspired me to do something with my lantern so I dragged it out.

Oiled the pump, it makes pressure and will spittle fuel.

It came apart politely which was nice... but I don't think I am the first one to take it apart.



And it is plumb full of spiders.





I need to blow the air tube out at work tomorrow and I think the lantern might run.and I need to get a full seal kit coming for the stove.

Those modern seal belted coolers are junk. I have one I bought on clearance, and it has not held up from regular use.

I had to completely replace the latching mechanism with something different. The latch was just screwed onto the sheet metal and kept coming loose. I need to do something with the hinges for next summer too.

Asking $40 I offered $30 and she took it. Non Coleman M1950's are all over ebay for $70+ +shipping.

That's a good deal... looks like it's complete. Some of that small stuff typically ends up missing.

Even though I've temporarily sworn off collecting anything but Bronco II parts... I would have owned it too.
