Dang coyotes getting into everything.

I thought this was going to be another "rodents got into my junk" thread, seriously

I'm down with electric cars, I think they're cool, in different ways than gassers. Hybrids are what they are. I would rather have a gasser or a full electric... we have a 2006 Prius that burns 2 quarts of oil every 3000 miles and needed a $1500 hybrid battery replacement at 160k. However, other than tires, that's quite literally the only major stuff it's needed and it has almost 200k on it now. I am just super leary of huge repair bills on a hybrid after that battery experience.

That's true, but, they are supposed to be a "lifetime" part (but we know how that goes.) I also based that off spending $1500 a couple years prior to that on a full engine rebuild for my '88 Ranger... and that had a bazillion miles on it.

I am just glad I could do it myself, Toyota wanted $3000.

In my mind electric cars will be easier to fix for the home mechanic. That's what makes them attractive in my mind. I just don't want to deal with the expense of wiring in a charging station in my house... I only have 100 amp service and it would be a major deal to put a 200 amp panel in because nothing is up to code.

Lifetime.....75k

I never understood the point in these kind of swaps. If you want a modern car buy a modern car.

....i know everyone uses the excuse "oh its more driveable with modern components"....pretty sure any vehicle made since the quadracycle was perfectly driveable when it left the lot.

Any car since the mid-late 50's and any truck since the mid-late 60s should have no problem being driven safely in modern traffic riding on whatever stuff it left the line with. Just drive it accordingly.

Some people want the modern ride, convenience, maintenance schedule, etc that a stock ‘48 Ford truck can NEVER have... but love the look of a ‘48 Ford. Contrary to your belief, you can have both.
I’d much rather have something I don’t have to **** with every weekend. I want it to be my choice to drive my classic, not let my carb, points, cap, rotor, etc. decide for me.

This was floating around the web last year:

I’m glad the owners manual doesn’t show me how to adjust valves... I’d rather not have to do it every month to keep the POS running.

No interest in ev's here.

My interest is fading in newer vehicles in general pretty fast.

The owners manual for my 85 has both. :thefinger:

I have no interest in EVs either. I'm waiting to see how many people get stranded because the cold weather so greatly reduced their driving range compared to when it's warm out.

If I was to get anything with a electric drive in it, and I don't see that happening any time soon, it would a hybrid.

Of course, the whole push to electric thing drives me nuts anyway. They want everyone to go electric with everything and then we get statements in the mail showing our electricity usage and complain about how we use too much electricity and we could do better. Pick one dang it!

If you had one of those Net Zero houses, with the super insulation and the solar stuff. An all electric car would be pretty neat-o

No bills except for your ginormous mortgage....

Yeah, and then you ruin a classic for someone who would of enjoyed it as is.

You dont want a classic...you want the shell of a classic. You take out all the shit that made it special and turn it into just another computer controlled turd with a cooler body.

Uh, the turd would have 400hp or 150hp?

Huh.....?????

.then they can buy it and make it their way......or make a new one. Or wait for me to die and get it ....

The only thing finite ....is us. And the amount of time we have....time ...the only real currency

Showing your age too ..

Whys it matter?

Enjoy it for what it is. Why does everyone think that you should be able to drive 80mph and stop in 100feet in every vehicle you drive?

Im just saying...drive stuff and enjoy it for what it is. I like something fast as much as the next guy, but if you want something fast buy/drive something fast. Dont chop up something to make it something it wasnt meant to be.

Lets use the 48 ford truck as an example.

If you buy one with a rotted frame, blown motor, used up and otherwise scrap....build to your hearts content.

But if you find one parked in a barn, solid, useable, with good compression and a good frame....get it running, clean it up, and enjoy it.

Thats all im trying to say. Dont hack up something that doesnt need hacked up.
