What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

So I fought with it and got it almost together, but it wouldn’t go the last bit. Come to find the exhaust was jammed into the oil filter. Once that was out of the way it went right together. So we are back to making progress

Did a little more diagnosis today, it's definitely something internal to the engine and it doesn't sound good. Best guess at this point is a busted piston (detonation? jumped time?), but there was no metal in the oil, and that doesn't really explain the immediate shut down if the engine. So I still don't really know what's going on. The noise (knock) sounds kinda high on the passenger side. Maybe a broken cam? About the only thing I do know is that the engine has to come out and I expect the damage to be fairly catastrophic. Not in the mood, nor do I have the time to mess with it right now, so I guess it will sit for a while.

I know this feeling. It’s broke worse than expected and it’s going to sit awhile and think about what it did to me until I’m good and ready to work on it again

Yeah, kinda, but it's entirely possible I'll never get "good and ready" again. Hate to see it scrapped, but if the 4.0 comes out, it's not going back in unless I'm severely mistaken about the cause and damage.

Oh I’ve definitely been in that boat before. I got one project still sitting after years because of this.

Put a hitch receiver bike rack on mine.

42 bucks at Harbor Freight

Don't drive off with the wrench on the bumper though...
I've done that too many times to count. I always find them there after too....
If they aren't there then some asshole stole them...lol

Loaded mine up to take the SxS out today. Was way muddy and no one was there. I mean no one.

That's the parking lot when we left this afternoon

That was a mockup to make sure that it worked, wrench is safely stored in the toolbox

My project ended up with a rain delay. Got one valve cover gasket done though. Happy with the fact that it’s going back together finally, but annoyed at the weather delay, plus the next day or two will probably be out at the girlfriends, so no work on the Ranger

New seats are in and seem to fit well enough to warrant covers.

Well that totally explains why the passenger door wouldn't go shut...

I got them from my FIL' s '91, they were comfy in there but I worry about first to second gen dash differences.

Yup, that's why the passenger door wouldn't close.

The dash differences shouldn't matter. The only thing that might matter is the gear shift (Why on earth did Ford bend the shifter like that in the first gens, anyway? It made the middle seat useless, because with somebody sitting there, you couldn't use second, fourth or reverse.

Yes that's the right way to install them.

They look good in there, although they'd look better if they matched the interior.

Previous bucket seat attempts failed because they put me too close to the dash and steering wheel.

I got tired of dragging home seats at $60/pr so I gave up on the venture until these came along.

I am going to get covers so they match.
