First NEW truck, hell yeah.

It definitely skips gears, depending when it thinks it needs to. Like its some sentient being or some shit..

Haha, thinks its smart huh lol.

On mine, it will skip 2nd and 4th if I’m light on the throttle from a dead stop. It will skip 3rd and 5th if I get on it a little and back off when it’s in 2nd. Anything more than 1/2 throttle and it won’t skip any gears.

On the Edge it will only say what gear its in if you put it in "useless mode".

I think ford calls it "sport mode".

Itll say what gear it's in if your in sport mode or if you hit the little shift button on the shifter in D. Being able to pick from 10 possible gears as its effective top gear in drive is pretty cool.

Actually I'm pretty sure if you put it in low it'll tell you your gear too.

*This may be different with fancier equipment packages, i just have the basic dash or whatever.

I thought maybe it would start in 2nd if you weren't towing. I wonder though if skipping gears will have any negative effects on the clutch packs over time causing transmission failures early on?

Makes me wonder though, the engine and transmission, differentials, transfer case, etc. may last 20+ years, but will the electronics LOL. Hard to say I guess, these trucks and many other vehicles are just too new in their lives to really know I guess. When I buy a vehicle I have to buy it factoring in at least a 20-30 year life span as I can't afford to buy new vehicles every couple years, so whatever I get will have to last me many years. I'd rather not lease, and my credit isn't good enough to lease right now anyways. Probably another 1-2 years out on a new vehicle anyways, so who knows what'll be out there by then. Kind of want a new Bronco though HAHA!! But, I've always loved the Rangers so who knows what'll end up in my driveway in the next couple years. Thought about a Toyota Highlander, but I think I'd rather have a pickup if I bought something new. Then again I'd have a hard decision really between a Ranger or an F-Series pickup at that point ugg LOL. We shall see how things play out in the next year or 2.

I can't be sure cause I know very little about them, but I have a feeling they are not 10 individual gears but gears that overlap by using overdrive like the 5r55e does for second. So skipping gears wouldn't really matter, you're just not engaging the overdrive during the skips.

Plus, even if it is 10 real gears, I would think skipping if anything would spread out the lifespan of the clutches and bands since it's not constantly using the same ones. :dunno:

Hmm, never thought about it that way. Would be interesting to know for sure how it works.

$39,999.95 before taxes, title, doc fee, insurance, and surrender of your 1sb born child LOL.

I have no idea but I'm curious as to what people are actually paying for the new Rangers. Anything close to what the Ford website build page says?
I remember the first time I checked one out they wanted 47k for a fx4

I'm more leaning towards an XL model with 4WD, locking rear differential, extended cab so I can get the longer bed. Don't need anything too fancy...I mean I'm driving 30+ year old trucks for crying out loud LOL. Well I do have an 08 Explorer but I drive the Ranger and Bronco 2 more often than the Explorer. Been driving the Bronco 2 mostly here lately due to the weather though.

I'm fairly certain there is a wizard involved...

I wanted an xl specifically so I didn't have to deal with all the stupid extra electrical crap no one really needs. Its getting kinda ridiculous. Sensors that feel how hard your gripping the steering wheel and then go ding ding ding at you if your not holding it good enough lol wtf.

I just don't need all the unnecessary options in today's vehicles so I just lean towards the basic models to avoid as much of it as possible. I don't need the navigation system and the high end radio stuff I can do a google map if I have to or use my phone if I needed, but I rarely go anywhere that I need directions anyways. I don't really even think I'd need the locker but its a nice thing to have and not use frequently than need it and not have it. The limited slip in my 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee was nice in bad weather with they would offer a limited slip option in the base models but I'll settle for a manually selectable locker any day.

The basic radio and speakers sound awesome in the 19+ rangers compared to the old ones, night and day difference. The locker IS real nice. Wasn't going to buy a truck that didn't have it, would definitely reccomend.
