Electric conversions, are they happening now?

EVs are cool, but it's super unlikely that your truck will be banned. There are proposals in place in some locations to ban the sale of new ICE vehicles by 2035 or so, but I don't see anybody realistically banning operation of older pre-existing ICEs. It's like older vehicles from the 50s, 60s, or 70s being allowed to operate on roads even though they don't meet current emissions regulations.

California, the worst offender of all on this type of thing, has said that they will ban the sale of NEW ICE vehicles by 2035, but the sale and operation of used vehicles will remain unaffected.

Doesn't California's power grid already spontaneously catch fire without the load of all those new electric cars?

No, they have constant rolling brown-outs to prevent exactly that.

It's the gender reveal parties that set the state on fire.

But I thought in California babies didn't have genders until they grow up and choose what they want to be?

This is why we can't have nice things.

Sure go ahead, knock yourself out. If you're convinced, spend $20k to convert your vehicle from ICE to EV.
Loose 200+ miles of range, loose the ability to drive CrossCountry without fear of not finding a 3hrLongChargingStation.
Pretend charging KiloWattHours don't cost anything & don't produce polution at the power plant where they originated.
Pretend BatteryPacks last forever & don't need a $10k replacement in 2~3 yrs with the old toxic one going to the land fill.
Sure go ahead, knock yourself out.

Yup....I can't wait to have turn table steering and 1k tq worth of hub motors.

Yes, power storage is the issue

Pretty much all energy comes from the Sun
Direct solar panels
Hydro-power is from the Sun evaporating water at lower elevations and that water vapor comes down as rain/snow at higher elevations
Wind is caused by the Sun heating up areas differently
Waves come from wind
Plants need Sun to grow, and animals eat the plants and other animals eat those animals, and if allowed to ferment long enough that makes oil
Current Plants can also be used to make liquid fuel energy storage

Other power sources are
Nuclear
Thermal, heat from the earths cooling and plate movements
Tidal, from the Moons gravity as it circles the earth

While there are lots of sources for energy we don't have effective ways to store that energy in compact devices except in liquid form

One other thing

Liquid fuel conversion to usable energy in vehicles is awful, gasoline is about 25%, 30% on some newer engines, so $3 gallon of gas only gives you $1 worth of energy to push you down the road, $2 is used to heat up the engine and air around the engine
Diesels are a little better, 40%, but still abysmal

Electric motors and batterys are way more efficient, pushing 80%

Mr. Fusion..................................one day it will happen

What % of usable energy is a hot dog in a person powered vehicle?

tenor (12).gif

Its a net loss considering the amount of ass wiping a hotdog creates.

Nothing is forcing you to wipe, it's a personal choice and therefore should not factor into the equation.

This is true.

If we could harness the power of an itchy butt.. we'd be miles ahead of where we are now as a species.
