new toy- Its a little late for this year but couldnt pass up on the deal. A older wheel horse. C101 with a 10 hp kohler. And a rototiller. no mower deck but thats ok, just got that deere lawn tractor about a month ago. needs a few things but for $600 I just couldnt pass it up. from my limited research, its a 78-79. 3 speed gearbox with a high / low range. so 6 fwd, 2 rev speeds. That Kohler is a great engine. I've got one in a 74 JD 110. Just keeps on running.

Got my C out of the barn for the first time of the year, don't need no stinkin' battery!



Actually the battery in the B died so it stole the battery from the C. I use the B quite a bit compared to the C so it kinda takes priority. Sometime I need to snag a battery for the C now... I can't always park it on top of a hill.

Looks good. More fun to use if it's easier to use. When you have a tool like that, use it to it's fullest advantage to maintain a "Work smarter, not harder" mentality.

I wish I had a tractor. But it's hard to justify for my little half acre lot.

View attachment 44229View attachment 44230View attachment 44231Ive crank -started my C a time or two when the battery was too low to crank it over but yet had enough to have spark if it was rolled over by hand. My C is a bit of a mutt. The magneto was replaced with a conventional distributor and a resistor put on so it could use a 12V battery. It still had the 6V generator so not long ago I put a alternator on so it has a charging system now. (yesterday’s tractors- $50 for the bracket, $80 for the alt) Im building a small boom for the 3-point, ive found the hydraulic lift really useful lately, the 500# disc is a bit much but a old post sat in concrete pulled right up out of the yard without a issue. Have a front step on it now too since rear access isnt as easy now that it has a 3-point

I have my wheels set out a one notch wider (like if you flipped yours side to side) Its pretty easy to just step on the drawbar, axle housing and then slide into the seat from the back. Unless the cultivator is on, then it is just a PITA climbing over the tire.

The generator works, I just need to get a 12v regulator and wire it. Right now the only wiring hooked up goes to the starter switch. Usually the starter touches the flywheel and it starts so I hardly ever have to charge the battery. Full 12v conversion is on my to-do list. That is how my JD B and WD-45 have been converted. My WD had a alternator on it when I got it (Motorola off a combine), it was seized so I swapped it for a cheap Delco alternator.

Set to 38" rows with the cultivator. There is no good way to get to the seat except via helicopter...





Seat ingress/egress was a weak point on the B/C. The B's are really really bad.

mine were in the widest postion when I first got it, I put the wheels in to the narrower position after I took the 6’ belly mower off. I did have the culitivator lift rockshaft on the back when I first got it. Mine fires up real good in the summer, no choke, half throttle. Barely needs the starter but im glad its there. winter its a bit more picky. I never even fired it up last winter. Im considering cleaning it up and giving it a fresh painting and the right decals. I have the original front rims and want to put the correct tractor fronts on. Right now it has 5.30-12 trailer tires. Try to turn with the disc on and you do more with the individual brakes then you ever will with the steering wheel. It was fine with the mower but now that the heavy thing is out from underneath there is less weight on the front tires, in fact I had to hang some weights from the bell housing to keep the front end down, I could push on the back of the disc when raised and lift the front of the tractor off the ground.

Sounds like the rotary hoe on my WD-45. It pulls like nothing when it is down but I have to brake to turn and then counterbrake to stop the turn when I have it picked up. For added fun it is a high speed one so I have to run in third. And that is with four slab weights on the front.

Really wish I had a D-19 for that one...

I have about 2.5 acres. about half of it hillsides. Nothing grows except invasive plants. I tried raised beds, planters, cages, nets, scarecrows, bb guns, bug sprays, D.E., motion lights. Nature laughed at it all. Anything close to growing is brutally murdered by gophers,rats,squirrels,rabbits,deer, snails, earwigs, mites and bugs. I cant fathom how any food can grow on this earth without heavy pesticides and animal repellents. I was thinking to build a metal screened structure, but that wont keep the spider mites out.
I've got one stubborn tomato plant thriving, and a cucumber thats in a planter, on asphalt under a motion light, covered in caging, plastered in tree tanglefoot, and still half eaten!.... Mother Nature is a B...

Rule of thumb I always heard is plant twice what you need and you might get half of your half.

Plant flowers around your veggies, most bugs will eat the flowers before the veg. Neem oil works pretty decent. Sm90 works good for a multitude of things as well.

I have 18 tomato plants... they all seem to be coming along nicely. Also the three tomatillo plants are doing super good. Peppers are coming along nice. My zucchini... straight neck... butternut and cukes are struggling a bit.

I planted about 150 banana pepper plants this year. I have a brown thumb and can never get anything else to grow.

I can do good with tomatoes but they get eaten instantly by my critters. They never bother the banana peppers.

I tried leeks too down in my swamp. They seem to be popping up but I dunno anything about leeks so no idea when they are ready or what to do with them.

That's a lot of banana peppers! I usually plant two and can about all the pepper rings we eat in a year. What on earth do you do with all of them?
