I have a 2002 Ranger and it has the flat 4 prong plug under the bumper which i assume is factory and is only for trailer lights. My question is are the Rangers prewired inside the cab for trailer brake controller, like a plug some where that i cant find.

Thanks in advance.

not that I've ever seen.

the '93-up F-series were.

If you find out anything please post about it.

They are not. The only way Ford would have prewired it is if it came factory with a 2" receiver (which the do) and also a round 7-way plug for the light connector.

Even the F-150's that came with a 4-wire flat are not pre-wired, up until a couple years ago. Around the same time Ford offered a factory Trailer Brake Control on the Super Duty's.

Thanks ..i thought maybe they just used the same wiring harness in all the trucks whether it had tow package or not, just hid the plugs and you didnt get the box of wiring plugs.

My 2002 F-150 came with a factory four flat and my brother's '97 F-150 with a factory four flat were both factory wired. There is a small rectangular (close to square but not quite) grey plug up under the driver's side of the dash, towards the center of the truck. That is where they were on our F-150's, dunno about Rangers.

I just got a $7 connecter from TSC that I attached to the trailer brake controller pigtail and just plugged it into the truck.

I had to get a second harness for the back end of the truck that went between two plugs that could take the trailer brakes and convert it into a plug in, I have the 6-round because that is what our trailers are, but it does have the output for aux power as well (for break way batteries or a camper battery)
