the metal band just didn't have the guts to hold the 2 halves together, they started to slip off,,,

well, that wasn't going to be tolerated.

wonder if a hose clamp would have sufficed?

my puller is a little different then that one... I've never run across one it would pull.

either way pj… way to git er done!

O used a hose clamp when I did mine. Worked great. The metal band is useless.

I do not envy you rust belt guys... never had a problem using top quality Harbor Freight puller...
 
I have never had a problem using local auto parts rent-a-part puller.
