What year ECU's can I use in my 92 ford ranger 4.0L M/T 4X4? I need to find on in a bone yard. Can I use one for an auto?

Thanks

You CAN use one for an auto, but you probably wouldn't like it.

there is a subtle difference in idle strategy.

Above 1600rpm when you close the throttle the computer
STOPS all injector pluses until the rpm falls to 1600rpm.

this allows for more effective engine braking and in hilly
country can save you >1mpg.

Probably the best computer to use woud be one coded "X2X2"

Would you like one without searching?

Why, do you have one?

i'm tempted to take your word on it allen and swap in the 91 sploder cpu i have, didn't you say it brings on the torque at a lower rpm?i'm running a 92 ranger cpu now

But of course:)

Try it, I welcome another opinion.

when we did it in my brother's truck the explorer CPU just made the engine feel stronger.

Even whan I swapped them without telling him which computer was in the truck he could tell which was which.

Of course there could have been something wrong with
one or the other, it's not like we did any dyno testing.

this was all "Butt-O-Meter" testing.

Rick is your truck a 5 speed or auto?
I also have a 91 Explorer CPU for an auto.

I am intersted, what can you get me one for? How about a main ECU harness? The one I have cought fire and shorted the ECU and runied the harness and plug on the ECU.

What other ECUs can I run beside the ranger one? What different years will work? That would be nice so I know what I looking for.

For a manual computer you are looking for a 91 or 92

90 there were no manuals.
93 is a very different computer.

Eec harness from the comuter out to the double plug on the alternator bracket can come out of any '90-92.

Again, 1993 is enough different to cause major aggevation

PM on the way.

well allen i'll give it a try but i want to double check the cpu pinning as california could possibly have a few tricks hidden in the posey sniffin cpu from the ex(my current cpu is from maryland).
i'll be interested in any mileage differences too.my truck rarely goes over 3000 rpm's now(yay!,goodbye 2.9),a stronger bottom end might help mileage?or do they just run richer at low rpm's?=worse mileage?:dntknw:

my ranger and parts exploder are 5 speed trucks, neither would have made the cut with a slush box.why, were you thinking trade? i'm thinking i'll keep my second 4.0 set up for a swap into a samurai or sandrail turned tube buggy

sorry to thread jack kyle,i guess its useful info though

I try to ignore the exsistance of California let alone actually discuss it.

But I believe you are absolutely right.

Anything I say where I don't specifically mention Cali emmissions vehicles you may safely assume I'm talking "48-state" vehicles.

Also "mountain states" can be different.

Haven't seen proof of it yet, but...
