On my 2009 FX4, the 'Door Open' dash indicator and the dome light are always on (I have removed the dome light bulb.). The dealer says that it is both rear door latch sensors and wants $650 to fix. My hope is that the rear door switches are separate from the front door switches and that I can easily access them and disconnect or short them out so that I will again have a usable dome light. Can anyone tell me:
1 - Are they separate from the front door switches?
2 - Where are they located?
3 - How do I access them?

TIA, Terry Ferguson

The switch should be in the lower latch for the rear door. The easiest place to get to the wiring would be at the rubber boot between the door and the body near the hinges.

Before replacing anything, try spraying all the door latches with a light oil, Cyclo Breakaway is my favorite but there are other good ones out there. We used to see a lot of sticky door ajar switches and squeaking door hinges on cars "serviced" by Jiffy Lube and the like.

Thanks, I will try the penetrating oil first.
