My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Hey, everybody! In a recent thread, I mentioned that I had thought about creating a TRS calendar, but the idea came too late to coordinate for 2020. A few others showed interest, so I talked to Jim and he gave his blessing on the idea. I have volunteered to do it. So here is what I am proposing.

1. We need pictures. I could download photos off the site. But that kinda infringes on individuals' property rights to their images AND, since the site automatically resizes images, I would not get very good file sizes/resolutions and they would not look good blown up to a decent calendar size. So, if you have a picture that you want considered, send me the full-size image file at my email address below. This will ensure that we have the best quality file for your image. Do not post them to this thread.

2. The pictures we need are;
  • pictures of your truck - Ranger, Bronco II, Explorer, Mazda pickup, etc. the RBV's (Ranger Based Vehicles) that we adore here on the TRS site.
  • Make sure the truck and photo are something worthy of showing off to the whole world in our calendar. Make it your very best. I can do some clean-up in photoshop. But don't make this a bunch of extra work for me.
  • 2wd, 4x4, daily drivers, Low riders, Race trucks - all RBV's
  • Action shots or posers. We want to see your low-rider in the local car show, your race truck leaping off the starting line, your 4x4 teetering on the rocks, your daily driver on a sunny day right after you washed it. Farm trucks hauling farm stuff. Make the shots interesting.
  • TRS group shots. Did you and a few other TRS members get together for a trail ride or a local car show or road trip? Group photos are a great way to feature more members.
  • We need pictures from all seasons. Let's see snow, spring flowers, summer events, fall colors, holiday decorations, etc.
3. I'm not sure how much participation we will have. But my thought is that you can send photos from now until October 15. At that time, If necessary, I will try to carve out the best submissions, then put them in a thread here for everyone to vote on. We only need about 13 images to fill a calendar (12 months plus cover?). However, I don't think it will be difficult to put the calendar together. I used to make a custom calendar every year for me and my wife using photos from our travels. So I have done this before. If we get a lot of photos, I may entertain creating 2 or 3 different issues. Maybe a 2wd calendar and a 4x4 calendar or a special theme calendar. Someone already recommended a special theme in the other thread. I could also put multiple trucks in a collage on one or more pages if we want.

4. After October 15, we will have 2 weeks to vote on the official calendar photos. The winners will then be assembled into the calendar(s) and they will be available for orders beginning in early to mid November, just in time for Christmas shopping. I am researching which website to use for printing and sales. But the idea is that this will be handled on a site that allows you to order the calendars you want and they print your individual order and ship it directly to you. That way we don't have to mess around with minimum order quantities, inventory, etc. all the mess that comes with the "old ways" of doing this. There may even be multiple calendar formats and sizes to choose from.

5. Any photos received after October 15 will go into the pile for the following year if this works out.

6. Any meager proceeds will go to TRS for site upkeep. and special events.

7. I also need your help with one other item. I thought it would be cool to mark special dates on our calendar. So I need your help researching and submitting special RBV and TRS historical events. Think of it like "On this day in RBV history, blah blah blah happened." Things like The day TRS was founded, the day the first Ranger rolled off the assembly line, our anniversary trail ride, etc. These will be our special "holidays" in the calendar.

8. Send your very best Photo files to me at ericsbenner(at)gmail(dot) com (you know how to fix that address so it works.) I don't want robots picking up my email and spamming me) Make sure to include your username or name, and pertinent info about the truck, location if photo, event, etc.

So, what do you think?
Let's have fun with this!

I'll take one...

Seems you put a bunch of thought into this Eric... thanks for volunteering your time.

Once the weather gets nice enough to do a decent cleaning, I'll send you some. Since neither of mine are super special, I'm thinking a Gen 5 to Gen6 nose to nose photo or something like that.

One thing you didn't specify: Condition of the truck.

My '85, when I got it, was in really nice shape, although rust was starting to bubble the paint over the rear wheels. My '91 looked like something the cat dragged in. My '90 was somewhere in the middle. It was in nice shape for its age, but had rust in the usual places on the body.

Good question. I would argue that a rusty truck or one in less than perfect condition can still make a great photo.

But I encourage you to be creative and make it an interesting / artistic photo.

I am pretty sure that the above pic is not a Ranger based vehicle...

However, I am in. will start combing through pics from the Trail ride, and several that I have of my truck doing truck stuff...

How about a ‘79 F350 Ranger Supercab? My ‘02 isn’t calendar worthy.

I can't wait to see this come together. I keep hearing a rumor that there's going to be a Midwest TRS trail ride later in the year. Might be some photo ops.

Hey, y’all! Just bumping this thread as a reminder. Also, as I see trucks that I think would be good for this project, I am sending pm’s to the users and requesting photos.

Thanks
Have a great Ranger day.
