Amazon warehouse is awesome

I'm sure Amazon warehouse has cheap holsters.

There. Does that tie us back to the original subject?

You don't want to use cheap holsters at the whore house. That's how you get the AIDS.

I just take some Nyquil Cold, Flu, and AIDs... I don't like the way holsters smell.

Any state without vehicle/emissions inspections sounds like a fine place to live. In my state (michigan) i can drive a 351 smoking like an IDI 6.9, bald tires,, and rotted frame and they wont say shit as long as the lights somewhat work and its tagged/insured.

I would jump off the golden gate if i lived in cali.

As much as i bitch about michigan, its not bad here.

So, you are OK with driving an unsafe vehicle?

Smog inspections aren't that big of a deal. They're done every other year and with OBDII vehicles you will very likely pass if your check engine light isn't on. If it is on, then something isn't working. For the vehicles built prior to OBDII, as long as you aren't removing things because you think you know better than everyone else, chances are it will pass. I've owned 8 vehicles and flipped a handful more. Two of those that I flipped I bought cheap because the previous owner couldn't get it to pass smog because someone thought they were going to get mucho horsepower out of the engine by removing/changing things. I was able to get them to pass the smog inspection with a very small investment in parts.

If you lived in California chances are you would find something much more entertaining to do than jumping off a bridge. Besides, they installed a net under the bridge to stop people like you from killing yourselves. So, you would just end up tangled in the net 200 feet above the cold surf. And it is cold! So is the wind. And search and rescue isn't going out there to save you until they're done with their lunch break. So, I suggest going to Yosemite or Mt Shasta instead of jumping off the bridge.

I think most people are pretty happy where they are at, this doesn't really need to be a "my state is better than your state" thing.

Exactly! People seem to think one place or another is intolerable due to what they hear on the media, or from others. I okay with living in California. There are things I don't like, but I think I would hate the hot weather in Texas more than the things I don't like here. Every time I've been to Texas it was hotter than Africa there. It can get hot here where I'm at, but it only lasts several days and the evenings are usually in the 70s and low 80s at BBQ time in the summer, and rarely humid.

This is not helping to sell me on the whole "Don't jump off the bridge" idea.

It actually makes it sound like more fun.

No i dont drive anything "unsafe". But ive been known to drive things up and down the road that would not have passed an inspection. Ive had trucks with small rot holes in the frame, rusted spring shackles, brake lines capped/pinched off, etc.

Worn tie rods, bald tires, etc etc. Do i drive them fast or far? No. But i have driven them. Im not scrapping a vehicle that runs and drives no matter how bad of shape things are in.

That being said i havent done that stuff in a while, but i think people get way to wrapped up in "oh thats unsafe". As in, a tire with no tread is perfectly safe as long as you only drive it when its dry....see what im gettin at?

As far as smog inspections...everything i got is EEC IV or carburated. Besides the wifes escape. I dont remove things emission related unless they cause problems. Thats my issue with cali. Why would i pay 350 bucks for a cat when its not nessacery for the vehicle to run and drive?

If you have an '80's vehicle that is a pretty low bar...

There are a lot of other hobbies while mostly harmless and perfectly legal in other parts of the country are downright felonies in CA.

Nj got rid or safety inspections and sniffer tests over a decade ago (only obd2 emissions test every 2 years now). It's only made this place better. No more 4 hour wait at the DMV or paying insane prices for private inspection, no getting rejected for absurd nonsense like "your window rolled down too slow", You can actually renew your drivers license or transfer a title now because the DMV isn't wall to wall with people complaining about inspections.

There's been no increase in accident rates since the change and all the safety inspection rules are still laws so you just get a ticket if you wanna drive with no windshield and your wheels falling off instead of a red sticker. But hey if you love the government all up in your butt telling you what to do with your car, then California is the place to be.

PA likes their tax money too much to eliminate such things. I’m pretty sure they would tax air if they could figure out a way to do it.

There was no cost for safety inspection if you went through the DMV so it actually cost the state a ton of money to run, staff, and maintain the inspection facilities. They breifly considered charging a fee to cover the cost but quickly realized the people of NJ would turn to post apocalyptic anarchy if they had to pay any more fees or taxes, so they just ditched the entire inspection process. It's probably the only thing this state ever did right.

80s vehicles have very simple emissions components. Clogged EGR valves were common, as were missing and misrouted vacuum lines.

And no, they aren't harmless. If it were harmless we wouldn't have emissions laws, which extend to the Federal level. It's just as illegal to remove or modify emissions components in the rest of the country as it is in California.

I can legally replace my own catalytic converter, you can't do that in California...

There are very few older vehicles, so their impact is pretty small. However, I'm surprised the inspection stations didn't lobby for more inspections. Once in a while there is some talk about reducing the inspection interval here to something like every four years. It gets the guys running the smog stations crying. Older vehicles here need to be smogged when they are sold. The change in the safety inspection rules is justified in most cases. The cars have better anti-corrosion protection and sensors alert the driver when some things aren't working.

And again, in California, the smog inspection isn't that big of a deal. It's done for a reason. As for not being allowed to do something to your car, it is against Federal laws to tamper with emissions equipment in any part of the country. And the few other laws I'm OK with. I much prefer people driving around be to be looking at the road and not their cell phones. When you have 100,000 KC lights on when driving through town you may be able to see fine, but it is a hazard for everyone else. And no, you can see clearly at night with a dark-tinted front windshield. And yes, your vehicle can be lifted too high to safely drive on the road. I've seen a few of these tip over when they are making a right turn. However, the panicked look on their faces is priceless as the vehicle is falling over.
