Stack ?

Thinking about putting a stack on my truck, its a diesel so it wont be that lame, but what i really want to know if it is ok to chop out the muffler compleatly anyone know alot about the perkins/mazda 2.2L how much back pressure should be there theres no turbo so its hard to say....
 
they are loud with no muffler


but they run well still.
 
well im not worried about volume backpressure and ruining valves is my biggest concern
 
It will be fine, I don' think it will be that loud.
 
i see, well, any ideas for pipe size? im running 2 inch all the way back right now, so bring it up to a 3 inch after the 90 degree ? its going to sound like a fart machiene no matter what size of pipe i run.
 
i would do 3 1/2 or 4", just my opinion, I hope to run stacks someday too..
 
Try running a glasspack on big three inch pipe. There's a guy I know that swaped a Isuzu diesel in a 90 model ranger and has a three inch stack without a muffler sounds ok but I would put a glasspack on it.
 
Get a big farm muffler from Tractor Supply and use that. They have some that would be long enough. A flapper cap on the end will keep rain and birds out of it.

A tractor muffler wouldn't look that great on a truck, and one long enough will be HUGE for a Ranger.

Rain caps are good in theory, but in good storms get blown up and let water in... we have fought that tooth and nail on our tractors with them. Then when you start them you get sooty water all over the surrounding area that is hard to remove once it dries. Now we use painted soup cans on the end of the pipe, they work a lot better. And that is before you mangle the rain caps in tree branches too.

If it was me I would get a chrome curved exhaust pipe with the muffler under the truck. We just ordered a 4' long 3" one for about $150 for a tractor. They do pretty good at keeping the water out (seem to be about as effective as a rain cap) but they look much nicer.
 
I've always heard on diesels, they have more power without a muffler, but i don't know if it's actually true. and I would recommend a 3 1/2 to 4 inch like suggested. I put one on my 2.8 ranger (3 1/2) with a glasspack and when i have a load on it and it's in the upper RPM's it is pretty darn loud.
 
right on, so im going to go for a nice muff instead of no muff atall with 4in pipe
