Why cant I buy......

Amazon usually has penzoil ultra platinum on sale for 23 bucks a gallon in 0w20, 5w20, 5w30, 10w30, and 10w40. I know the ultra doesn't come in the odd weights you guys are talking about though. According to my blackstone reports penzoil ultra runs better in my duratec than mobil 1...

To be fair, I haven't had to stock up on it recently. The last few years I tend to buy it about five gallons at a time online when Rotella offers rebates. In the past it was available at all the chain auto stores as well as Walmart. Conveniently it's also very comfortable with a wet clutch, so my motorcycles get it as well (when they're running, that is - it's been a while unfortunately).

I did that a while back, Advance was clearing out their stock of Mobil Super 10W-30 for about $.30 a gallon. I picked up $5 worth, which was all that was available in the local area.

$23/gallon is a deal?? I'm gonna go against the conformity and state that I've used cheap oil and cheap Fram filters and never had any issues, ever. Oil is still oil and any NEW oil is better than the black oil you have in your truck now. IF something happens oil related then it was probably operator error especially when it comes to the filters and drain plugs. People think they have to crank that puppy on with a 1/2" socket wrench when in reality the oil filter is held on by a few pounds of pressure and I'm sure the drain plug isn't much more. Rule of thumb for the oil filter is to free spin it until it stops on its own and then a half turn. Oh don't forget to check for the old seal. Those can stick to the block and a double'd filter seal will allow oil to come pouring out like its getting paid. If Fram was that bad they would be out of business by now.

Sorry its 23 for 5 quart jug.... not a gallon. And that's cheaper per quart than most conversational oil. :dunno: I dunno what you're using that is cheaper but are you sure its even oil?! :icon_surprised::icon_twisted:

Motorcraft is cheaper than that. Even at a parts store it is $27.

Lol, a Motorcraft filter and 5 qts of 10W-30 full synth SuperTech was $21. It's not like WalMart makes it, and it meets all the same specs.

I can't imagine spending 25min watching a couple of random guys on YouTube talk about oil - I'm not a video watcher. If you can find a written test report from an accredited lab performing a standard test, then I will read it.

I wasted 6:22 watching some maniac tell me what I already knew.

Aluminum engines are garbage, and GM engines are garbage, and when you let GM make an Aluminum engine you call it a Vega.

Could not sit through the second one but I would say the first one was a good example. It's not worth twice the money for similar protection.

The best oil is fresh oil, and I can afford to change it more often with cheaper oil.

I use Mobil 1 in my Mustang and my 11 Ranger but for different reasons. When I was frequently drag racing my Mustang running conventional Motorcraft oil, I would have to replace the main bearings about every 2 years because staging with an aggressive clutch wore out the thrust face and I'd get excessive end play and rear main leaks. After 8 seasons of racing the end play was still good. When gas prices spiked I switched my 04 Ranger to Mobil 1 in an attempt to increase mileage and it worked, if gas cost at least $2.80 I broke even, when it went above that I showed a minute profit. I continued using Mobil 1 after gas prices went down because the 4.0 SOHC is such an over engineered, rube goldberg design that I figured better lubrication couldn't hurt, same with the 11 truck. If you like cheaper oil, fine, just change it at least 2-3 times a year. I've seen way too many customers with major engine problems that could have been avoided by one more oil change each year.

Also, check the oil company websites. Last time I bought Mobil 1 the net cost was less than $15 for 5 quarts because they had a rebate program and 15w40 Rotella for my tractor ended up at $12 for 5 quarts for the same reason. If a company wants to give you money back it's only polite to let them.

Ahhh... The great oil debate. Some things will never change....
