Looks like you're not splining the direct clutch to the forward clutch drum properly. When you push on the top of the that stack , does it feel springy?

No, it feels solid to me, and it drops to the same spot even with the clutches removed. That's why I am so stumped.

I will work on it in a few weeks. It is still wet and cold out, and I'm just about out of all forms of heat, trying not to buy more this year.
