Hey Guys,

I am in the middle of a BII 4.0 Swap and I have some questions about Second Gen 4.0 A/C systems and parts.

First, I want to state that I have done exhaustive research on FordParts.com and even talked to Ford Powertrain guys to try and gain clarity for my situation. I know less now then when I started.

Ok, so I have a 1992 4.0 Ranger Donor. To the best of my knowledge, it was factory installed AC. My problem is finding the right replacement lines/hoses to match my compressor. Also, I am finding it challenging to find an exact replacement compressor style. Reason being is that the wiring harness and compressor have one red wire that connects to the harness (not a plug). Basically all the compressors I see have plugs. If, by chance, I find a compressor with the one red wire it does not have the same hose fitting as my current compressor (it is a manifold style back).

Here are images of my compressor, as well as the hose manifold I have purchased (notice how the manifold orientation is a different angle than the back of the compressor). I basically want to know if any of you have insight to my situation.

Thanks

- Alex

Also, sorry for the large image size. I just found a photo when it was in the Ranger.

If I had to guess, I would say that is not a factory compressor. It looks quite different than the one on my '94 (and I'm not aware that Ford changed compressors within that time frame). The hose-clamped A/C hoses further suggest it might not be a factory setup.

I looked at a replacement compressor for dealer-installed air, and it was even more different. So I don't really have a good answer for you (sorry).

Thanks for your help, as always. I ended up just getting another AC wiring harness. The plug-in to the main harness is the same. Let's hope it works!
