1998 ranger 4x4, 4wheel ABS. I replaced the passenger side hub. When I drove away the speedo and odometer were not working. They were working prior to the hub replacement. I can't see the problem except as a strange coincidence. Anybody good with possible coincidences?

I don't know much about the new rangers, but I helped my cousin change the hub on his mom's 04 impala. Parts store had 2 versions. We bought the cheaper one only to have to come back and get the other cause it turned out one version had a wheel speed sensor (abs) and the other did not (non-abs).

Is it possible you missed plugging in the sensor or bought a non-abs hub without it?

Again, I don't know how ford handles abs. Just a thought to check!

I installed the correct hub with ABS. I am not certain but I think that the speedo sensor is the vehicle speed sensor on the rear axle housing. I have just had this problem and haven't time to look into it. I have to go on a trip today and would like to at least have a working speedo.

Thanks for weighing in

Problem solved. It was in fact an odd coincidence. The wires at the rear ABS sensor were damaged.
