Best ways to raise gas mileage

Mikel89us ur stupid, then please explain to me how scienctist have proven that egr is better for ur engine by letting in unburnable gases that lower combustion temps, explain to me how my truck a 2.5 Lima twin plug, with egr can go to Detroit Michigan to Dayton Ohio a 200 mile on i75 1 way trip there on half tank of gas, and can get upwards of 450miles on a single tank of gas, with out egr same trip 250miles to the tank, thats a huge mpg difference dip shit, cruise control set 70mph the whole way, egr is used at hwy speeds,

There's no place for personal attacks on TRS. Debate all you want, but keep it civil. This is your warning.

Well is your egr hole clogged? Does the sensor work correcly? Do you block off the egr with a plate or leave it unrestricted?

Drive easy and minimize stops. I'm pulling 28ish mpg in my 94 ext cab with a toolbox loaded down.

OK kunar, if egr tube is clogged ull know easy way to find out if ur egr is working, with the truck running and up to operating temp, put a vacuum pump on the vacuum side of the egr then draw a vacuum if the truck stalls ur tube and egr are both fine, if it just stumbles but doesn't stall either ur tube is restricted or ur egr is not opening all the way

Thats how I found out my sensor has failed, because it stalled out, and I also used a genysis scanner evolution 4.0 to test the egr and the egr sensor or the dpfe sensor as its called reported voltage iregulaties it was reading 5 volts all the time which when open if working properly it should read .5volts to 4.5volts, my truck is also a 99 which obd2

NIPs, adding egr gasses is the same thing as letting off the throttle. You can get the same mileage out of a non egr engine as one with egr. Now if your egr works fine, leave it, it makes no difference to me. I however do not want to put the money into my egr systems because they cause carbon buildup in the intake.

Proof that you may not be well informed is your statement on the catalytic converter's which was way wrong. I've been working on 2.3/2.5s since I was 15, and I've talked to many people who know more about lima motors than you probably know about cars in general. I don't mean to offend you, but one of my guys I've learned from has had his 2.3 mustang at 41mpg, and also has a compound supercharged/turbo mustang making 528hp and 561lb ft of torque that he daily drives and still gets 25 mpg out of. Trust me when I say I do not interject unless I have a good idea someone is being fed bad information.

Ive had 3 ranger 2 2.3 and 1 2.5, agreed they do create carbon buildup I meant to say O2 sensor, when saw this whole post I HaD already worked this thing called a job at Ford dealership, but u to sit there and ****ing attack me, I dont mean to offendu which u clearly did mean to offend me, so u go unoh u must think ur genius get that shit out of ur head that u know all or otherwise u will never last as mechanic ive been working at the same for dealership for 3yrs plus I also go to school fulltime im constantly learning new stuff

NIPs, I was not attacking you, and you want to throw experience out there, I worked at a Ford dealership for a year and a half, and a Chrysler dealership for a little over a year, I have experience, and know what I'm talking about. I'm sorry you got offended, but your information as stated was wrong, plain and simple, I don't like people getting told incorrect info when they look for help, so I corrected your incorrect statements.

Removing weight from the you truck is a good way to gain MPG. That's what Ford is doing a lot of on new cars and trucks. I wouldn't go with a bed cover because of the weight. I would go with removing the tailgate and installing a tailgate net. Removing the rear bumper and installing a fiberglass roller pan can cut down on weight. If you have steel wheels you can change to aluminum and skinny street tire can help. You can save a few pounds be changing your full size spare tire and wheel to a space saver spare Ford made some with aluminum wheel, just start looking at wrecking yards. If your truck has A/C and power steering you can change it to non A/C and manual steering. I don't know how far you want to go to improve MPG.

What kind of mileage might I expect with a '98 supercab, 2.5 liter engine and 5 speed?
I get 18-20 mpg in winter with snow tires and 20-22 with summer tires which seems reasonable considering I am not a gentle driver.
