Concealed Carry Pistol Thread

I carry a fullsize 5" m&p pro with an x300 attached here and there, just depends which job I'm at and how I'm feeling.

The right holster makes a huge difference in how it carries.

Mastuh, do you not think home defense rounds in 9mm would not be sufficient?

I just think there iffy, honestly if you had to proper self defense ammo they should work just fine but there so small especially the 9x18 Makarov which differs from 9mm Luger I wouldn't be so sure. A .45 seems like the ideal round because it will put someone down and you can feel confident that you will only need 1 shot. The main problem with 9mm is the stopping power, small round means higher velocity which can pass through even with hollow points with minimal damage, unlike the .45 which is a slower velocity round which most likely stop especially with hollow points and cause much more damage. Recoil wise, you should only need 1 shot, so the recoil should not be an issue.

Honestly... 9mm .40 and .45 are all effective.

I carry a 45 bc I like the XDm 45. Not bc I think the 45 is a "better" self defense round. 9mm will kill...

One shot of any caliber is not guaranteed, nor usually enough to stop a person.

Me personally I'm a 9mm guy, back in the day yes 9mm had some problems but these days 9mm,.40 and .45 are on a pretty equal playing field when talking stopping power.

Me personally I will take controllability (read: lower recoil, shorter split times) and capacity and lower cost any day over .40 and .45.

I shoot a lot of 9mm, it's lower cost lets me shoot and train more. You can pull a .50 bmg on someone, but if you can't hit them it doesn't do you any good.

yep. I reload 45's that mimic my carry ammo. Of course, I don't carry handloads... I can reload 45's cheap enough I can shoot as much as I get the chance.

I use a Whitehat Holster (IWB) with a full size M&P .45 (10+1).

The weight was weird to get used to at first, now I hardly notice it. The size took a bit of getting used to but actually not as long as the weight did. It actually conceals pretty well (32" pant waist without the holster).

Doing it over again, I'd probably get a M&P .45C, just a little shorter on the length and height. If I had the money I'd get a 9mm and be comfortable carrying that too. As pointed out with 86 slo-vo's post, you gotta hit your target first and foremost.

I have never really carried one concealed but to handle the 1911 is "right sized" to me.

I have pretty good sized paws, really they almost kinda feel dainty compared to my old revolvers.

Still rocking my XDm, hoping I never need it.
SOE belt and Theis holster still work awesome. Kytex gear mag holster, looks new still.

Highly recommend these items.

I am going to leave this right here.

i prefer a Kahr 9 for personal protection. a 9 is reliable & ample supply ammo is not an issue.(mind you it doesn't have the knock-down capability of a .45 but it still gets the job accomplished)I like pocket carry as opposed to belt-holstered. with pocket carry (in a pocket holster) i always know where it is- I'm more cognizant of where it is on my person. there is a delay in displaying it from the pocket. if a situation arises where i need it fast, i may lose a couple of tenths of a second in introducing it but i accept that limitation. also, if someone wants my wallet they're going to be getting option b, instead.

I also have a compact 1911. That thing is a boat anchor. That is the only reason I do not carry it as often, weight.

What is the thing you have pictured above?
