Anyone have first hand experiance of putting the L/S carrier out of a heep in a TTB D35?

I have read there is a ratio break, is there a chart handy out there for what axle codes mean on a heep to know if it is A) the right ratio B) even limited slip?

Also I read there are other axles in heeps too, what is the best way to pick out a D35 from a D44 or some other far flung axle that I want nothing to do with?

Is pulling the carrier about the same as the 7.5/8.8/9.75 that I have worked on or are there any special tricks? I hate figuring out "special tricks" by the seat of my pants in the JY...

My heeping experience is limited to a few rides and nothing more...

Should work fine. 3.55 and numerically higher carrier is the one you need. Should pull out the same as any other axle.

Don't know about the codes. Generally manuals have 3.55 and auto's got the 3.08.

There's plenty of charts out there on identifying Jeep axles.

I've worked on quite a few jeeps over the years, mostly cherokees. The four cylinders had either 4:10 or 3:73. The cherokees with autos had 3:73, the manuals had 3:07. Most had dana 35 but I did see a few with the chrysler corporate axle, can't describe the difference but there's a guide to telling the difference somewhere on the web. The 44 that was used on the jeep used an alloy center section which makes it easy to identify, it's also a completely different shape. The only way to be sure is to pull the covers and read the numbers on the gears. The above applies to grand cherokees also.

I tried asking for a 3.73 dana 30 on a Jeep site a long while ago before I decided to do a frame swap and basically got laughed out of town, as they supposedly didn't exist.

The above seemed to be the consensus they gave me. Maybe it's just for TJ's?

I have two dana 30's with 3:73 gears in my shed. I also have a d35 lsd carrier from a 3:73 axle on my workshop floor.

I have yet to see a TJ in a yard. Usually XJ's and ZJ (Grand Cherokee, I think that is right) and once in a great while a stripped out husk of a CJ or YJ.

We have at least 15 TJ's on the yard right now. From 97-06. Even have a few LJ's. Have at least 3 CJ's, and probably at least 10 YJ's.

Do the Jeep carrier/pinion shims work in the Ford housing?

My gut says they do but while nobody shows them for a Ford hardly everybody shows them for a Jeep.

Pinion shims, yes (though Jeep axles don't have an oil slinger like Ford uses because the Jeep axle is a low-pinion rear).

Carrier shims are completely different (Ford D35 uses thick shims placed between the carrier bearings and the housing, Jeep I recall puts thinner shims between the bearings and the carrier).

You'll need a Ford-specific installation kit if that's what you're asking.

Ok, thanks a lot for the help.

I just hope they didn't do something goofy like make the carrier wider to support the shims and bearings...
