At least I know what's wrong now.

Hmmm, that'll cause a bad fuel gage reading, lol!

So your fuel guage never worked?

Did the float come off in the tank?

It used to work. Then one day it was forever empty. And now I know why. It must be in the tank somewhere, but I'm not sticking my arm into 18 gallons of gas to fish it out.

Yeah, you dont want to contaminate 64$ of fuel! lol

Anyone have a part number for a float? I found some on ebay for about $20 shipped, but I'd like to go to Ford tomorrow if possible.

Put on cork on her from the craft store, 99 cents:icon_thumby:

no hes not corks will float, im just not sure how much weight they will hold up, but its better than buying one for 20 bucks

Seriously, that will work? Yer not kidding me are you?

I've done it myself, worked great, just get one that is around the same size as the original float

I don't see a separate float listed. A cork should work just fine. Make sure it is real cork though!

I have an old unit somewhere around here. I'll look tomorrow, if i find it you can have it if you want it.

im pretty sure you can buy em at the dealer but i think those are the brass canister style ones. it looks like your sender is after market, uses one of those black foam things

I just had to replace the fuel sending unit for the same reason, today. My float ended up taking on gas, and then it stayed sunk. $100.78 for a new one, 5 hours later on my garage floor, and the gauge worked, I however forgot to connect the filler hose. Now I'll screw around with that tomorrow and hope I don't have to drop a full tank. Theres a few things that you can do for a float, that very cheap, ping pong balls work, if you have a rubber ducky that might work too. just find something that floats, and then fasten it to the rod.
