Has anyone ever fabbed up a second fuel tank for the ranger, say in the area of the spare tire?

You can use the search function for this topic. We have talked about dual fuel tanks a lot of times. But...you really should never add a tank at the rear....you could be looking for a bad incident, Bro.

Some of the first gen's came from the factory with dual tanks. fairly rare tho. I do believe that a few people here have done this. do a search on the site and you should pull some results.

It's been done. AlanD has that setup in his Ranger and he's helped others do it.

Ignore StrayCat. His wiener stopped working and he has been quite "frustrated" for a few months now since he doesn't feel like a man anymore. Needs to get his jollies from being an ass and calling everyone "bro" now.

A lot of vehicles have come with tanks in the rear without issue. He has his mind stuck on the Pintos that turned into fireballs after being rear-ended. That was a select few sedans that were built with the longer station wagon body rear bumper bolts. Probably wouldn't have even ever made the news back then if one of the victims hadn't been the kid of some super lawyer.

My shop foreman had a custom tank made and installed it AOA on his 89 5.0 swapped Ranger. He custom fabbed a bed side to put the filler in the rear of it. If I was doing this I would get a flip down plate bracket from a 60s or 70s car and put a rear fill setup on it behind the plate.

Now that you mention it, I have noticed that Straycat is being a little more irritating than usual lately....

Bro.

:icon_rofl: (sorry, just couldn't leave that one alone).

Bro, Rangers came factory with dual tanks, I actually have a rear tank in my ranger as the only tank. Unfortunately they are very very hard to find, so you're better off going aftermarket if you ask me, I'm lucky to have found mine from a member on here. The trick would be making it all work like a factory dual tank truck, being able to get gas from the other tank with the flip of a switch (and have your gas gauge work with both of them too).

Just a half serious idea I've been bouncing around in my head. My 90' F150 has dual tanks, I've been thinking of putting the spare tire on the tailgate/bumper and will have the room for another tank...hmmmm...Bro

Both of my rangers came from the factory with duel tanks.
LMC truck has almost all of the stuff needed to add a rear tank.

With the price of gas who can fill up 2 or more tanks?
LOL

It doesn't matter if you put in 5 gallons or 25 gallons. You spend the same amount per mile.

I always fill up both tanks on my F-150. It's a big hit to the wallet at one time, but it means that I can go a couple weeks on average before I have to find a gas station again. I'd be spending the money on gas either way, all it does is make for one less stop to gas up.

I still don't buy that argument. The BIIs got their 23 gallon tanks put in that area and the F-series trucks with dual tanks all got the tank put behind the rear axle in the "spare tire" area. I haven't seen any of them turn into fireballs.

I have, however, seen Jeeps turn into fireballs because of a defective fuel tank design...

And more on the subject... my dad had a 1989 F-350 dump with dual tanks (and no rear bumper, just a hitch) and had someone in an old boat of a car (back when they made them with heavy steel bumpers) slam into the back of him. Crushed the car up to the windshield and did it damage the fuel tank on the dump? Was there a big fireball? Nope. Just bent up a mudflap bracket and took a chip out of the paint on the tailgate.
