Hi I am about to piece together the parts needed for a v8 swap and by the sounds of it I need: of course a 302, a M50D R2, first gen explorer radiator, transfer case adapter, manifolds/headers, mustang dual sump oil pan, 1985-1993 mustang GT convertible motor mounts, oil filter relocation, water pump, fuel pump, and make room for the valve covers by the heater box.

So is there anything any of you guys would add or change to this list?:icon_thumby:

Welder, sawzal, beer and time.

I can't see it but what year vehicle is this all going in? And are you running carb or FI?

Oh and pictures of you doing the swap.

Yep.......gotta have pictures as the swap "goes into effect"!

Keep the pics in this thread so we don't get lost looking for em

:headbang:

What are you doing for power steering and headers?

The power steering pump on a 302 will work with the ranger setup.

Ok Its been hard to find a 302 but theres tons of 351's, so should I get a 351 instead?

You will have to make custom headers to clear the frame. Remember not all 302s are created equal. Try to find a roller block if you can, they started making them in 85. My 91 is a roller block and with me doing a simple mustang HO cam swap, I went from 155hp to 200hp.

Also could I use an auto transmission with a manual transfer case.

All day long.

The thing is I can find 5-10 351w's before I can even find a 302. It sounds like with a 351w I would have to fabricate headers on top of all the other things that go along with a 302 swap. If I do end using a 351 would a 4.0l radiator be too small.
Thanks

A 3 row 4.0 rad just keeps a 5.0 cool with an efan. If you go with a 351w, your going to have to go bigger.

You don't have to fab up headers for the 5.0 to fit in a ranger, there are ones that do fit for such a swap. I used explorer headers for my swap, considered restrictive but because I don't have anything on my exhaust system to do that job, they do the job plus I'm not going all out crazy with power either.

Sorry me asking since I do all of this on my phone and it doesn't show it, what year/model ranger is all of this being done to?

Have you checked auto-part.com? I have bought a low mileage Explorer motor and had it shipped local, 10 miles away. Wasn't that all expensive considing that it could have been run with-out rebuild
