I'm wanting to remove the upper intake in my -98 2.5L, but am unsure how to go about removing this particular gas line, or at least the portion of it that goes through the intake, to get it out of the way, as shown here: http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps43dc3d1b.jpg
Here's a shot of the other end: http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps75de8816.jpg

I'm not even quite sure on what exactly this line hooks into there on the end showing in the second photo. Is this line full of gas or is it an air line, or what exactly? Thanks.

It's a vapor line for the evap system. It isn't used to carry liquid fuel, it transports stored fuel vapors from the charcoal canister to the intake manifold so that fuel that evaporates in the tank can still be used. You should be able to pull it off at the purge valve (the canister looking jigger in the second and third pics). It might have a little white tab on the connector that needs to be pushed in before it will come off.

If you get a better pic of the connection at the valve I can tell you exactly how to get it off.

Also, using photobucket's IMG tags instead of the direct links will make the pic show up in your post so we don't have 100 tabs open trying to flip around, makes it easier to process the pictures and help.

Thanks adsm08 for the helpful reply. So I had at least one more question regarding when I go to remove the upper intake. I'd be wanting replace the "upper intake gasket" after removing the upper intake, but I'm not really sure if that's the proper name of the gasket I need. Is it actually called the "upper plenum" and therefore I'd be needing the "upper plenum gasket"? Also, I think I can get by without having to remove the EGR valve (and then having to replace that gasket also) if I just loosen the nut on the EGR tube and un-attach it that way. Just wanting to make sure before I start I order up the proper gasket(s) I'll be needing to replace.
And sure, next time I will use photobucket IMG code instead if that's a better method and helps out. thanks again man

"Upper intake" or "Upper plenum" are both equally correct terms for the gasket you want.

As for the EGR valve, it is less disruptive to the gasket to take the nut off the EGR tube. If you get it off that way slop the threads up good with some anti-sieze before putting it back together. If you cannot get the nut off, which does happen sometimes, I have had very good luck reusing that particular gasket. Just take care to not clean either side of the sealing surface and it should seal up again OK. I do that more than I like to admit, but some of those silvery exhaust gaskets that aren't down on the pipes are semi-reusable.

Okay, just to be clear, here's (pointing with finger) the "upper plenum" (or "upper intake") gasket which I know I'll need to replace:

And here's the EGR valve, with nut on tube, which has been discussed:

But here is another gasket I might need to replace? Looks like between the upper plenum and the throttle body, so maybe called the throttle body gasket? Please comment.

Thanks again.

adsm08: probably kind of a dumb question here, but how about that gasket between the upper intake and the throttle body. I that probably one of those type gaskets I won't need to necessarily worry about replacing, likely re-usable such as the EGR gasket as you mentioned? Just trying to determine whether I should get a whole set of gaskets or just the ones I know I should need. thanks

Your being foolish.
The complete gasket set is around $7 from rockauto. Can't be more than $20 full price at your local parts store.

Do all of them while your there, lower upper IAC and throttlebody. And while the intake isn't in the way, roll 8 new spark plugs and a set of wires on it too.

Okay. Thanks for that advice; will do. Yeah my plan is to do the new plugs and wires. I'm not clear about lower and upper IAC as you mention. Upper and lower idle air control? With the upper plenum removed will I be having direct access to those? Hey thanks again.

I was able to come up with two following sets, from the two different local stores. What I'm wondering about is if these seem to include the gaskets I need for the lower upper IAC as mentioned in quote above.

Any further comment appreciated. thanks again
