PlumCrazy's Build

Nice paint drawing, just keep in mind you will probably have to either build the flat deck higher or make fender wells on the flat bed because the ranger frame doesn't arc up much in the rear like Toyota frames

Yup. On our 87 we spaced it up a bit. I test fitted the flatty from our Gen I but it was 3" too narrow on each side for my cab.

Decided to pull the headache rack for a few updates and new paint.

I am going to build some sort of hinged bar so I can fold the lights back to avoid damage on tight trails.

I also want to add some diagonal braces to it and cut out/redo the gussets I added when I was 16...

Good thing i pulled it off, fatigue cracks are starting. Looks like when I pushed the bedside in last year I stretched the hole too.

I am going to use J bolts through the stake pockets next go around.

I knew I heard a pop this past weekend when I was dropping into a wash out at a crappy angle....I tucked passenger front and driver rear meanwhile the other two were a foot or so off the ground.....

I found what popped....

Snapped a leaf on the driver side. I am looking into some Procomp 88-98 Chebby springs. 198 ppi. I wish I knew what I already have...bought them used and they are perfect height and super soft.

If I were you, I'd start off with a stock 64" pack and tune from there. As I'm sure you know there is a great write-up in the tech library and here is a great discussion on Dezert Rangers on 64" leaves and good combos and other leaves to weave in. Of course its more go-fast prerunner oriented but great info nonetheless.

Lol. I had stock Chevy springs a long time ago. Then i picked up my current springs. I was told they were 5.5" Superlift springs, but he wasn't sure either.

I need 5-6" lift springs for a Chevy to stay at my current height with my current hanger/shackle configuration and no block.

I need to do some measuring and research.

Oh sorry man, I guess I should have read your build thread more thoroughly hahaha

The more I look at springs the more I am starting to think I have ProComps. Based on number of leaves in the pack, and the style of anti twist band things.

Not to mention Super lift doesn't offer a 5" leaf.

The SkyJackers have way too many leaves and cost waaaayyy to much.lol

I would just take it to a spring shop and have them replace that one leaf. Would be the inexpensive route. There is Stuver Spring in Akron (they do all of of my trucks) and Okey's in Wooster. I know Stuvers pricers are good. I havent used Okey yet. I am sure there is one in the Ashland / Mansfield area as well...

All the leaves on both sides are starting to bend into a W shape. I have a feeling the others are not far behind.

I also noticed from day one that these leaves I lay flat on the full length of the over load. All the lift/arch is towards the end of the spring. Im not sure if that is normal or if these springs are just that beat.

They have worked awesome, but I have a feeling I need to look into new ones altogether.

I sell new leaves at the shop. Get me a thickness, and I'll ship you out one. Should be around $100 shipped.

Compared to others, ProComps are petty cheap. I can get both sides for less than 300 bucks where as SkyJackers are 350 a side.lol

Auto Parts Warehouse has free shipping and 10% off.

of you could go to Pull-A-Parts and make a bas.... set that would work for less then 50.00

I need more arch than any stock Chebby can provide. By the time i made a bastard pack that got the amount of lift i need it would be WAY to stiff.

If the truck was just a pavement pounder I would, but I need something that does more than just add height.

I dont mind spending a little money on something that will work as well or better than what I have now.

Did a little measuring last night, the ProComp springs Im looking at are 60" eye to eye unloaded and 66" flat.....

My current springs (found yellow sticker on them indicating Super lift) are 66" at ride height and easily 70" flat. That explains why I had to move my reae hanger back to get decent shackle angle.

For now Im going to replace the broken leaf and its passenger counterpart with a leaf from my old stock 64" pack...

If anyone knows where I can find 6" Superlift Chevy springs, let me know....I dont want to reinvent the wheel to run shorter springs if i don't have too.
