so ive got a 98-04 SOHC 4.0 in my 95 ranger running off the 95 computer and using the 95 sensors. i upgraded to a OHC maf sensor with the air temp sensor built into it and it works great.. a buddy of mine gave me a 04 newer SOHC k/n intake. everything will work great except i need a newer style maf sensor. i got one at the local yard but does anyone know if the 95 computer will control it? or how about the wire colors?

Technically the maf should still read th same. Different plug ends. I think the main dfference is the older computer hd the temp sensor seperate farther up theintake line. But should be able t wire it all together painlesly.

Good question. I've used a '95 OHV, a '97 SOHC, and an '01 SOHC mass air sensor on my swap. I saw no difference.( '95 Explorer OHV computer, running an '01 SOHC.)

I would think the '04 sensor would work the same.

IIRC, The wire colors should all be the same. I do remember that the #1 and #6 wires on the connector are for the temp sensor. The other 4 are in the same position as the 4 pin connector used on the non-temp sensing mass air.

On another note... what did you do about the cam sync?

i too have a 01 sohc maf on the 95 computer.. i had a guy burn me a chip for the ohv computer with sohc specs.. runs way better.. i have a check engine light for the cam sync.. from what i can find the 95 cam is a different type of signal than the 97 up sohc cam sensor. truck runs fine with the check engine light on.

That's a question for another thread altogether, but primarily due to the lack of pushrods, and better tolerances. That's a lot of missing metal, the weightis added back in with the 2nd cam, but spinning it is a lot easier than pushing it.other reasons too I'm sure which I just don't knw.

I'm working on a mechanical solution for the check engine light:

I machined down a OHV cam sync and a SOHC oil pump drive. Mated them together, but havent got a chance to weld it and install it. I blew the 4r55e in my Ex and am pulling the whole conversion and installing the Cummins 4bt.

now that is pretty sweet! i know the 95 sensors are a 3 wire set up and the Sohc is a 2 wire. i did also notice a 98 up ranger is also a 2 wire....

Incase you were wondering, you come up with the parts, Ill machine them.

You need an oil pump drive from any SOHC, and a 2 wire cam sync from a newer OHV.
There are 2 different length shafts on the newer cam syncs. (123 and 132 mm) IIRC You need the 123mm, but I'll check and make sure.

OH yeah, I never checked to see if it would clear the head and intake (like i said, I havent finished building it), but i'm assuming it will.
