Starter relay question

A few months ago I discovered that my '94 Ranger has a starter relay on the fender as well as a two wire starter with integrated relay. Has anybody researched the reason for the redundancy there, and/or eliminated the relay on the fender?

I have often wondered the same. I think it was Fords way of keeping some kind of power distribution point in another location under the hood.

I never noticed, it may be that the aftermarket starter is the same as some other vehicle with a built in relay/solenoid. This happens more than you would think.

Perhaps, but the wiring to both the fender relay and the starter relay looks factory. I had trouble with the signal wire going from the fender relay down to the starter. Tempted to just run a wire between the trigger and main connections on the starter so the separate relay is the only one really accomplishing anything.

I worked on a '94 and now that you mention it I'm wondering the same thing... I noticed the starter relay on that one too
